The pic is from google earth and its an entertaining thread over on the "dark site".

Difficult to explain since other things seem to measure correctly from google earth. Its also a kick reading some of the dUMb "Math Majors" trying to explain how this could be or not.

I think the only dumb ones are the moronic kittie fans who actually believe it.
No - most of the ones talking about it are Griz fans, and they should be. The sideline to sideline measurements are dead on, it's just the endzone to endzone measurements that are off. See if you can use Google Earth and measure any football stadium in the country that doesn't come out to 300 feet, + or - one foot.
So please explain the chains for me. How are they accurate? Does UM call the Acme First Down Chain Company (Nasdaq symbol "Chain") and ask them to produce yard markers that are 9.6 yards long so that no one notices???

And if you are dumb enough to answer yes to that, how do they get the officials to shorten their stride when they're marking off penalty yardage so that a 15 yard penalty doesn't turn into a 17 yard penalty??

Think it through, moron. Even you should be smart enough.
A pair of wire cutters and a couple links later .... 9.6 yard down markers!! WALLA!! :) Maybe they chose the smaller first downs so the Griz could get some first downs easier with their play calling :)
Well 9.6 didn't work with this staff, maybe we should try 8.3?

Maybe it should be .08

 :suds:

Also - you don't think the officiating crew brings their own chains to work a game do you? Lastly - I cannot say for sure if the field is short or not... I can just say that it is very strange that the width is dead on and the length isn't. Also very strange that nobody can seem to find any other field in the country that isn't very close to being dead-on.
I would propose it might be the math department at msu who may have issues (and the English department doesn't appear too strong, either). Because being short 4 feet over 100 yards is precisely the measurement I suggested: That is, that the yard marker would need to be all but 4 inches short over 10 yards.

I guess I should take back what I said about even you being smart enough to figure it out.

And no one has addressed the official step off comment.

Again, if you believe that field is too short, can you please also tell me when the aliens are giong to land on earth?
Well, you're getting closer, it's actually about 4 3/4 ", but your earlier math about 9.6 yard chains was way out of whack- 9.6 yards is a hair over 28' 9 1/2" or about 1' 2 1/2" short. Measuring the length of the field with a 9.6 yard marker (10x9.6) would result in a field of 288 feet or 12 feet short.

BTW, I don't have an issue with the length of the field as determined by using Google Earth.

GK is technically correct. I used a decimal to indicate feet and inches rather than the standard 9' 6", which is frankly a pain in the a$$. My math was still correct (unlike a few who challenged it....)

No $hit GK is technically correct... and no, your math was not correct. You stated the chains would need to be 9.6 yards... which would equate to the field being 12 feet short rather than 4. Not sure if you forgot we were talking about yards rather than feet or what...

Great time to be a BOBCAT!
