Maybe its because the griz have one of the beat oline. And awesome front 7 that had pressure all night. Funny how everyone was saying app st had amazing WR core and all conf QB would light us up. Then they couldn't beat our coverage and were running for their lives. The griz are every bit as good as msu or ewu. Big sky will be tough this year.Regimen wrote:They have had no rush on D, and their O is lost...GavinDonos wrote:I'm more surprised by how crappy App's execution is. Even if App sucks UM looked very good last night. If their O functions like that every week they'll be very tough to beat. I was more impressed with UM than EWU or NDSU. But one game doesn't make a season.

Re: Griz vs App State
I dont think we played very well last night.
Its only going to get better, we left a lot of points on the board and our kicking game still sucks. The only thing we did different from last years game against App St is not have 4 turnovers. That was the difference.

That's true. The mishandled handoff cost you points. So did the turnover on downs, which really never should've happened. It could've easily been 44-6 or worse.AlphaGriz1 wrote:I dont think we played very well last night.

It looks like it was a good move to change the offense. Makes sense to play to the strength of the team, which is the OL. The run game definitely opened things up for the pass game and Johnson was nearly perfect.
If UM plays like it did last night, or better as you say, they will be very tough, almost impossible, to beat.

Re: Griz vs App State
Just finished watching this game, was at a HS game yesterday.
Here is my take, and before any fizz fans take offense I will say that they looked good and that this is a good win for the fizz and the BSC.
ASU is not the ASU of old, they were not prepared for either um's offense, defense or the atmosphere, and they were out coached by a 70 something, old codger that wants to play a 60's style of football. UM will be in the hunt this year but I'm going to say right now that NAU is going to shut their offense down and expose it for what it is.
Van looks good but I am wondering if he will make it through the year healthy, I dunno just a feeling I get about him. JJ looked good, but when a secondary plays that soft it doesn't take much to make a QB look good.
Oh and one more thought, since bobby is gone, we can no longer use the term "bobby ball", just thinking that we should call this version of it "Booger Ball"

Re: Griz vs App State
Their D didn't look great, but they made some great plays on D though. The goal line stand, fumble and INT on back-to-back plays were huge. They did a good job on Londry-Jones, but the backup was able to find holes. ASU doesn't have much of a run game, so I really thought UM would stuff the run, but ASU had a decent game running the ball. They just had devil of a time putting points on the board. Settled for a FG on the goal line, missing a FG, fumbling it away in FG range.

Re: Griz vs App State
My "insights" from being at the game:
1. ASU plays the worst pass D I have ever seen
2. Trayvon Van is the real deal
3. I cannot believe that ASU put their QB back in the game after he suffered an obvious concussion. He twice couldn't catch the snap because he was seeing double. The fact that the coaches put him back into the game showed a level of unprofessionalism and desperation I have never seen. Plus, the back up was a better passer.
4. Unless the Griz can figure out their kicking game, it will cost them at least 2 losses this year.
5. Wagenman never got close to the QB. Neither did Holmes.
6. Jordy Johnson is obviously a huge upgrade over last year.
7. ASU's firing of Moore was a huge mistake.

Wouldn't surprise me at all to see a repeat of 2011 (or worse). That team was good, but this one is better. The battle in the trenches won't even be close.TomCat88 wrote:Yeah, I think so too. OK. So you're giving 26 points at least. Are you taking bets? I'm not sure if I want MSU and the points or UM to cover, but let me know the terms and I'll get back to you.Htowngriz wrote:Wouldn't surprise me at all to see a repeat of 2011 (or worse). Re: Griz vs App State
I don't know why you think NAU will shut down our offense. They didn't last year. Our quarterback's 4 second half interceptions did that. I was there. It was not great defensive plays by the NAU secondary. It was horrible inaccurate throws by the QB. I saw some things I liked, but also saw some things that could use improvement. Our kicking game will lose us at least one game this year unless we suddenly find Carpenter a 5th year of eligibility. Van has some sick moves, but does seem a bit slight and is not a 20 to 25 carry a game guy. I don't think they expect him to be. I think you will see Van, Canada and even more of Counts as the season wears on. I have no idea if this is the ASU of old or not. Either do you. I think you can make those decisions as the year goes on. I think it is way too early for either fan base to make decisions based on one game. Each game presents it's own matchups.cats2506 wrote:Just finished watching this game, was at a HS game yesterday.
