No, in his radio interviews, he mentioned the Griz at length and barely mentioned MSU. He wants to knock off the Griz and he's letting everyone know it.1BadBobcat wrote:I think there might be a team about 3 hours west of MSU on I-90 that Glanville might want to consider trying to knock down also. Interesting that he singled us out - must be because we just a bunch of thugs

This week, in addition to commiting to Glanville, PSU also immediately bumped their recruiting budget up from $46k to $150k for next season, they pledged $11 million in facility upgrades, and they will double the pay of most BSC coaches from the head coach to the newest assistant hire.remember the SCOOP! wrote:PSU getting a coach like this speaks well for the Big Sky Conference as a whole?
Any thoughts?
PSU is going big-time in its commitment to football. Frankly, I'm surprised because many here in the Portland area thought PSU would drop football within a few years. It appears they took the opposite path and are going all-out to improve the program. I imagine a move to BCS is something that is in the long-term plan.
Folks, a sleeping giant has been prodded into action. I expect big things out of PSU. More importantly, they are putting their money where Glanville's mouth is. With the talent level of players in Oregon and northern California compared to other BSC programs (except Sacto, who can't or won't even try to be competitive), there is no reason PSU can't be one of the top programs in FCS. What has held them back during the Walsh era has been a total lack of support from the administration. Clearly, a new era has started.

I'm not fully convinced. I think it may be a last-ditch effort. I still think the program is on life-support. They just didn't want to pull the plug before they gave it everything they had. My hunch is that the administration at PSU has said one of two things will happen: Either this plan will be wildly succuessful and we'll become a BCS school in a few years, or it won't work and we'll drop the program.PapaG wrote:This week, in addition to commiting to Glanville, PSU also immediately bumped their recruiting budget up from $46k to $150k for next season, they pledged $11 million in facility upgrades, and they will double the pay of most BSC coaches from the head coach to the newest assistant hire.remember the SCOOP! wrote:PSU getting a coach like this speaks well for the Big Sky Conference as a whole?

Oh, I agree with this, but the other option was doing nothing and folding up the tent. $11 million in facility upgrades tells me they won't just give up in a few years. What they don't have is a fanbase. The commuter schools have a hard time getting alumni from the suburbs into the city 5 Saturdays a season. I will tell you that PSU has sold A LOT of season tickets over the past three days. What number, I don't know, but they have added staff to process requests.GrizinWashington wrote:I'm not fully convinced. I think it may be a last-ditch effort. Glanville's hire is a big deal in this city right now. It was top of the hold with picture on the front page of the Oregonian. Hell, I'm jazzed enough to go to another game outside of Novermber 10th vs. MSU.

What are the $11 million facility upgrades going to? The stadium? Practice facility? Other sports?PapaG wrote:This week, in addition to commiting to Glanville, PSU also immediately bumped their recruiting budget up from $46k to $150k for next season, they pledged $11 million in facility upgrades, and they will double the pay of most BSC coaches from the head coach to the newest assistant hire.remember the SCOOP! wrote:PSU getting a coach like this speaks well for the Big Sky Conference as a whole?

Practice facility, weightroom, and such. The city owns PGE Park. $11 million is a lot of money for non-stadium upgrades. Maybe the Stott Center will get some of that. What matters is there is a lot more money in Portland than any other Big Sky market other than Sacto. It will be fun to see how this goes for PSU. I am totally impressed with what they have done this week. The team already has talent, Ali will be healthy, and the CU transfer (White?) will be ready to fire the ball all over the lot.Egg Salad wrote:What are the $11 million facility upgrades going to?
