WAC kicks out Chicago. now they add football.
Chicago State University has hired Bobby Rome II as its first-ever head football coach, making history as the school launches its new Division I FCS program. Rome was chosen from over 230 candidates for his strong ties to HBCUs and his ability to build programs from the ground up. He brings a clear vision and deep connection to community, aiming to create a team that reflects the pride of the South Side and the culture of HBCU football.
Rome’s coaching journey includes leading roles at Florida Memorial, Virginia University of Lynchburg, and Central State, where he turned struggling teams into contenders. He also coached overseas and in indoor football, and played college ball at North Carolina before brief stints in the NFL and other pro leagues. With experience on and off the field, he’s ready to build something special at CSU.
