Please correct me. I cannot be reading things right.

I was looking at statistics on a basketball reference site to revisit the 1,030-game careers in the NBA of former Griz stars Micheal Ray Richardson, Larry Krystkowiak, John Stroeder, and Will Cherry. Enjoyed watching each of them play college ball.

So I got curious and looked up MSU's best players in the NBA. I was shocked to see none. Just one dude named Jack Gillespie who played in a total of two ABA games for the NY Nets in 1969 (and who went 0-for-5 from the field for his career).

That cannot be accurate. What am I missing?

Well, you're a Griz fan, so you're probably missing a few things, but I'm not going to get into a dick measuring contest because a) it just seems juvenile and b) I wouldn't want to embarrass you.

I find it hard to believe there could be a Division 1 program that hasn't sent at least one player to the NBA. But I learn all the time. Teach me.

I think you might be missing the part of the answer to this question: Who was the first player banned from the NBA? Selective memory I suppose...troll...

Who is the fourth player admitted into the Collegiate Hall of Fame (just off the top of my head but his nickname was "Cat" and he played on the team to which the fast break is recognized as being that school that actually invented the fast break? Tbey also won an actual National Championship--not just small college? Can't find it?)

Ohhh old basketball trivia! Cat Thompson from the late 20s. Bobcats won well over 30 games a couple seasons in a row. The National Championship wasn't won from a tournament like it is now though. Still pretty damn neat though. I remember reading something about that a few months ago but can't find what it was I read.

Looked up the year on sports-reference.com. The year was 1928–29. Went 36-2. Went 36-2 the previous year too.

I spend way too much time on sports-reference.com... that site is like cfbdatawarehouse.com but for basektball instead and with more stats, boxscores and rosters.

Also Here is the wiki for that season

Griz fans seem to be upset over that classic gag job on Saturday. Let it out. Project that anger on 'Cat fans. We have a lot in common, since both of our athletic programs have fallen behind EWU, which is sad when one considers how much money the Montana schools spend on athletics.

EWU is the new power school in the Big Sky, and UM, MSU, and everybody else need to figure out how to catch up to them.

Seattle to Billings to Missoula to Bozeman to Portland to Billings

What a ride

I understand. Kind of like the Power 5 conferences in football prior to the BCS. It really is a shame our state institutions can't figure it out and we have to watch all our regional foes move up and enjoy relative success at the next level be it football or basketball and we are squabbling over the fact tbat one school had four players get a cup of coffee in the NBA. Four whole players in all those years of existence. We really are podunk if you step back and be honest about it. As PapaG points out, EWU is the new power in the conference and if they had a decent stadium given their proximity to Spokane, we'd lose the in a few years too. They'd be the only show in town if they had decent teams play there instead of our small college schools.

Then I guess it's true? There's never been a Cat in the NBA?

OK, the Griz have been to the NCAA tourney in 9 out of the past 24 years, including 3 out of the past 6 years.

How about the Cats?

For all the knowledgeable fans in here, you wouldn't think these questions are so difficult. I looked it up. The Cats went to the dance once in that span of nine Griz NCAA tourney appearances, losing to Suracuse by 33 points in 1996.

Texas A&M advances past um with 17 point win in 1st round of NIT

Not a bad performance by Texas A & M, considering they took Kentucky to two overtimes, and Montana beat Montana State by an average of 15 1/2 points in two contests this season.

Thank you for watching your University of Montana Grizzlies.

The NIT is actually a nice change-of-pace and refreshing alternative to the NCAA Tournament.

We go to the NCAA Tourney plenty often enough already (3 times in the past 6 years ... 9 times in the past 24 years).

Took the lead about halfway through the 2nd half, but then went ice cold. Once Breunig was out our offense came to a halt since they didn't have to double him anymore and we started missing threes. They got on a roll and ended up with the W. Much closer than the score indicates but a loss is a loss. Not bad against an SEC team though that like Griznationalist said took Kentucky to overtime earlier this year.

Hell of a year for the Griz, being picked by the coaches to finish 8th, end up 1st and have a 20 win season under a new coach while down 2 scholarships basically (one ineligible player and one player not on the team taking up a scholarship). Also lost our starting point guard to transfer. Season went much better than expected and I'm looking forward to seeing the new guys DeCuire is bringing in for next year. Should be good again! :)

Or 88-55, like when the Cars got blown out by Syracuse 19 years ago, the last time the Cats went to the dance. None of us had the Internet at home in '96. Wow.
