As I expected your theory gets blown up and you change your story...typical diehard, overzealous fan mentality. As soon as the ball is in a players hands on the sideline a play has begun. Hence the name "inbounds play". Just because the clock isn't running doesn't mean a play hasn't begun. The NAU player looked up and saw what appeared to be a coach running onto the court from the grizz bench. No matter how big of a grizz fan you are, you have to admit that disrupted the NAU inbounds play and should be penalized.
The fact that you can't see the difference between the very minor incident that happened at the Griz game and people storming the field during the middle of a play while the ball was live is hilarious! Combine that with how you tried to twist the incident between DeCuire and Murphy into DeCuire being in the wrong and it's pretty damn obvious you're Griz hatred has blinded you to reality.
For most of this thread you've been saying stuff like "Is it too much to ask to play by the rules." and "It should've been a T" while completely ignoring the actual rules and evidence that show it should not have resulted in a T. Now you're advocating marking off yardage (move the ball to mid court) instead? So all of a sudden you don't want to play by the actual rules. Hm...interesting. Rules are good only if they hurt the Griz. If they don't then they're bad and need to be changed!
Anyway, like I said earlier, if you don't like the actual rules & how they are interpreted in College Basketball then contact the NCAA. It's not the fault of the Griz that the rules aren't written exactly how you want them to be written and couldn't be applied to hurt the Griz in this case

Speaking of hilarious the grizz-EWU football game was your baby. You and Jobu drug that into the discussion thinking it represented some huge injustice against um because you didn't realize EWU was penalized. All anyone did was point out that um was given 15 yards and another play.
I'm not blaming the grizz, I'm blaming the BSC for the circus that was the end of the NAU game. If someone steps a couple feet onto the floor that's one thing, but to run nearly halfway onto court from the bench is another. If they allow it, then what's stopping everyone else from doing it. You have to have some kind of deterrent to make the bench think twice before they storm the floor. I'm not saying it has to be a T and give them free throws, but something like moving the ball to mid court would probably keep things in order.

I cannot believe this thread still lives.
And bracket, there is absolutely no rule in college basketball allowing anyone to advance the ball. It ain't the NBA.
The call was correct. Get over it.
Damn, I sure wish people were as passionate about getting Bobcat basketball respectable again as they are about preaching how the world wronged them when the Griz win a game.

Well, you don't want it to live, which is understandable. You keep running with the strawman argument that this is all about hating the grizz and its a "rule". When the point is it makes the game look bad, it distracts the team inbounding and gives a team an unfair advantage by so doing, and moving the ball to midcourt isn't a T but would serve as a deterrent to this kind of chaos.

Question: if this had happened in a Portland State-Southern Utah game, would you still be getting yourself all worked up about it?

I can't believe my own sweet, adorable Griz fans, well actually I can, are arguing this. Coaches and players can't go on the floor during a play. That has to be called something. I love it when the fans and players crash the court its a great sight, but only after the buzzer goes off. That whole scene was ridiculous and hopefully the NCAA does something to fix it.

I'm not that worked up about who was playing. I'm worked up that anyone is condoning a coach or player entering the court to this extent during an inbounds play. How can anyone defend that?

That's the question on everyone's mind. I doubt his passion for this would be nearly as high.

I don't know what's motivating [cb], but when you eliminate all the partisanship of this, then the only question is whether or not that is fair. You can't have participants (coaches, players, trainers, cheerleaders) running onto the court in the middle of a play. No one can seriously be OK with that.

No one has defended the player's actions, bracket. They've simply said that the precedent repeatedly (as in over and over and over) is for a no-call there since it was a dead ball and the officials had already stopped play to review the monitor. You understand the difference, no?

No one's OK with it. There's a rule that involves some judgement on the part of referees regarding play interference. It's all OK. The idea that the rest of the NCAA's coaches, fans, cheerleaders, players, etc. are holding up the Montana/NAU game as a justification to interfere with the game is poppy-cock.
I just think coachouert's question with regards to [cat-bracket]'s passion for this is well-placed.

No, [cb] is right on this. The whistle doesn't blow until the guy is sliding back into the bench. Watch the video again. It's very plain to see and hear.

Yeah, it's not just Griz fans.
And it happens dozens of times each year. I'll be waiting expectantly for the posts expressing outrage each and every time it happens in a game next year and no T is called. Why do I doubt I'll see one.....

GG, you need to understand the basic rules. The clock is AUTOMATICALLY DEAD the moment the ball goes through the hoop. The clock is stopped immediately. It's not a live play until the ball is inbounded. Since the officials blew the whistle to review the play, it never was inbounded.

The clock being stopped is not the same as the ref blowing a play dead. Once the player grabs the ball out of the net the game is live. It's only a dead ball after the whistle. If ref hands player the ball the inbound play is in motion (live), if he blows whistle again it's dead.

Nope. It's a dead ball. I thought we already corrected you on this very basic concept. You seemed to understand it for a while. Are you confused again?
