The salary increase factor is probably close, but the bigger picture is he will probably be a head NBA coach down the road which will be a dramatic increase from what he's getting now.Bay Area Cat wrote:I think this is a blow for our conference, but I completely understand the motivation for Larry to move on. As much as the kid in each of us thinks an MSU or UM head job would be a dream job, the cold reality is that Krysto was probably making less in that job than most of his old teammates that went on and had "boring" careers in corporate life. And as Larry is clearly among the top 1% in the country at what he does, he probably doesn't want to be compensated like the top 50% of most other professions.
I'm guessing his salary increased by a factor of about 5. I'd certainly it if offered to me, no matter how romantic the current job was.
Krysto going back to Milwaukee?

For the sake of the Big Sky, it's sad to see such a great coach and person leaving. Larry will do well in Milwaukee and Wayne Tinkle will step up and make a great coach for the Grizzlies. But as a Bobcat fan, which comes first, it's hard not to smile a bit about this one.
GO CATS!
It's always a good day to be a Bobcat fan!

My name is Steve, if you'd like to know.

It's a huge loss to the griz, and I do respect him not only as a coach, but for the class he has shown in being a coach.
The rest of your comment is beyond me, unless your sarcasm is alluding me.

GOKATS, okay, I'm old enough to remember when the Big Sky was formed and we were kind of thought of as somewhat cerebral (many Carroll College people hated both of our schools because we kind of made fun of the Jesuits who couldn't get into a real school such as Gonzaga or Creighton, let alone Notre Dame) but that's a different subject...we've sent some of the best coaches on to bigger and better things for as long as I can remember but now we're playing with some of the lowest ranked "colleges" in the U.S.
Anyway, while I spent several years in the South, I was fortunate enough to work with many people who recognized that coaching at MSU was part of the normal career progression if one wanted to become a D1 coach or coordinator. The place 202 miles west of us produced basketball coaches. That's the way it was not that many years ago. Now, even EWU is sending coaches on to bigger and better things.
While I was in the South, it was pointed out to me over and over that the only constant in life is change--get used to it. But--I can't stand the thought that we used to be thought of in somewhat of the same light as this group of schools:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/s ... index.html
but now we're not even held to the same standard as the Patriot League
We lost Gonzaga, Idaho, and Nevada and yeah, it pisses me off to see a school like Boise State look down their nose at us today
We've lost our reputation of excellence because of the company we keep and all of us are being judged by what we do on the football field and basketball court.

Well, I'd like to wish Larry the best of luck in Milwaukee. He was a terrific college basketball coach, seemed to have a great rapport with his players and staff, and always handled himself with great class. I still remember his comments after Ja'ron hit that game-winning three pointer in Missoula a couple years ago, and I never forgot the way he handled it with the utmost class. Many coaches at many schools could learn a thing (or ten) from Krystko, both about coaching and about class. I am sure he will do well wherever he ends up down the road, not just with the Bucks. As a Bobcat fan, I am happy to see him go because he's been killing us, but Larry was good for the Big Sky and hopefully helped to increase our league's national profile and respect in his short time at UM.
