Personally, I want the gris to be just good enough to give them hope, so that we can crush their souls every November.

I think that Bobby is the perfect coach for them in that regard. In V1 he had enough of a talent and facilities gap over every one that they couldn't help but be the top of the BSC. Now that the field is a lot more even, his coaching just isn't up to the task.
Yep!

Absolutely love that they think he’s the answer. Loved it since they rehired him. He’s not going anywhere.

I’m not surprised he’s still there but I did think he might step down. It never looks good to resign right after your son/daughter are done, so maybe he’s going to stick it out one more year. He doesn’t seem to be enjoying it but I might be reading that all wrong. I’ve heard he and Bodnar are tight but that might not be the case.

This is an interesting first sentence in the article written about Phenicie leaving...

"The first coaching domino of the Montana Grizzlies football offseason has fallen."

This is what caught my eye …

Upon his return to the program Phenicie said, “Coach Hauck always said that you have a home here. It's fun to get back, seeing a lot of familiar faces and old friends, but just seeing the level of where this program has gone to since we left in ‘09 is pretty special.”

Wasn't '09 the last time they went to semis in the playoffs? I thought someone else posted that somewhere. 🤔

Wow... I guess he should know.

The Griz are the Miami Hurricanes of the FCS: Talk a big game based on how good they were in the 80s and 90s but are perennial disappointments on the field in the present day, last won a championship in 2001.

This comparison is spot on to me. From the outside looking in I love it!

It’s funny to watch it all develop. I remember when Bobby came back and they thought the dominance would start. After all he did it 20 years ago right?! I remember posting on egriz that it’s not the early 2000’s anymore. The Big Sky is much better. The Cats are MUCH better. And obviously NDSU is on a different level. Not even the App States, JMU’s or Georgia Southern’s of their time are on this level. I was basically told to shut up, Bobby is back, griz are going to dominate, and watch out NDSU.

Read egriz today and it’s comical. Everything I listed above at why they wouldn’t dominate with Bobby, they’re now using as excuses to defend Bobby. The Cats are much better than they were. The conference is so tough. That’s why a 6th place finish in the BSC is ok.

Message boards are usually never the voice of a fanbase and program as a whole. Which better be the case over there. Because just like Miami and Nebraska, if a fanbase is so arrogant they still think they’re the best when nothing points to the fact they are, they get more complacent, more delusional, and the hole becomes deeper and harder to get out of.

As I said, from my perspective I love it. I HOPE they still think they’re somehow the top tier of FCS. I HOPE they think Bobby is the answer because he had success two decades. I HOPE they think their fanbase will never waiver and be key to success. Because while they’re putting faith in blind hope, MSU and many other schools are continuing to try and get better because we don’t just think we’re the best. The longer this goes on, the farther UM will fall.

You cannot imagine how badly this hurts me.

EDIT:

One difference, Miami fans very much acknowledge how much the team sucks and how everything needed to be blown up. Gris fans haven’t quite gotten there yet.

I spoke with a Gris fan friend of mine recently. He brought up President Cruzado and what she’s done for MSU. At first he was pleasant about it all but as the discussion ensued he literally got angry with comments like “she’s ruining the rivalry between the schools, MSU has twice as many students and that’s B.S. , UM will fail because of her, eventually there will only be one university in Montana, etc.etc. I stood back and watched in amazement and enjoyment. All I said was “she’s just doing what she was hired to do and is damn good at it”. Hate to bring up “ lil bro” but they are starting to feel like it.

Pretty sad but they seem to be languishing in it...

There is a post "over there" that they need to replace the cornerstone of their defense to be successful. [this is my translation] Guess who. Things at the university of disfunction are great.

This article spends a lot of time talking about the old days. It is pretty hilarious. And nothing about liking the coaches. Seems strange in an article about current signees.

The 2022 saw the stadium sell out three-straight home games for the first time since 2015.
