Wow. He actually has really good career numbers (%-wise), too.

That surprises me quite a bit, since Weber made it to the title game just last year. Also, I find it slightly humorous that Jerry Graybeal is the one who is firing Cravens for not winning enough.

I saw the irony in that also!

But Weber's got very high expectations for their BB program. It is unusual to see them near the bottom of the BSC.

This surprises me as well, but reading some of his quotes this year (usually about drinking beer to get over the performance) I wonder if he requested it, or at least wasn't too against it - - also notice that he has 2 years left on his contract, so he is being re-assigned, not fired - they will have to pay his salary, plus the new coaches salary - that's the kind of thing that will put a big hole in your budget.

Is anybody surprised by this move? I thought Cravens would be on the hot seat. He's a good coach and a nice guy. However, Weber has a very proud tradition in men's basketball and two losing seasons in a row is not acceptable there. Of course, Graybeal reassigning Cravens for not winning enough is really something to laugh about. I wish Joe Cravens luck.

I am surprised. Granted, they did not have the best season last year, but made it to the Championship game in the Tourney. This year, they won 4 games in a row to get back into the race, an lost a couple close conference games. Tough beans, I guess.

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Do you think Graybeal just inherited an assistant?

There seems to be a little difference in expectaions, and what is considered successful.

At the beginning of the season, I felt that three coaches were especially on the hot seat: Doug Oliver at ISU, Cravens, and Mike Adras at NAU. Oliver was there for not winning enough. Cravens and Adras were there for having down years recently. Apparently, Mike Adras is no longer on that hot seat. He's the Big Sky Coach of the Year in my mind. I felt that if Weber had a bad year, they'd forget last year's finish and also that season Weber had 3 years ago where they were 14-0 in conference play. I think it's not right that Cravens was fired because he's a good person and a good coach. He deserved another year to turn things around. Weber's administration must expect 1998 to happen every year. So that's why I'm not really too surprised that Cravens was fired.
