Might be my favorite NFL player of all time. I may have to storm the field when we beat UNC next year just to shake his hand.

He's been a HC, in High School, for one year. That's it.

Wonder if he will get hurt coaching?? Never seen a guy get "hurt" so much. Notice I didn't say injured.

You have to think he might be able to swing a big recruit here and there that wouldn't have otherwise went to Greeley.

During the Denver broadcasts, they always talked about how he didn't like bulky shoulder pads as it restricted his movement so he would find the smallest pads they had, usually quarterback or kicker pads. He would take some SHOTS and would always keep on tickin.

2, 2018 and 2019.

This was my first thought too. Big name hire, but can you imagine any historically strong FCS team hiring anybody, regardless of name recognition, who's entire coaching resume is 2 years as a high school head coach?
Definitely a move trying to get the fanbase excited, he's a legend in CO. But it's a huge risk that a big program would never make.

Nice hire. However, if they really want to build their program, start investing some money in it.

Re: Northern Colorado new Head Coach...
There's so much difference between high school and college coaching, I just can't imagine this is going to work out.
Has he ever had to recruit players? Does he have recruiting connections outside the Colorado high school scene? What does he know about managing player scholarships? Etc.
Maybe he does know those things, but most high school coaches wouldn't have a clue.

It's always important, but for McCaffrey it will be extra important to get a staff around him that are well versed in the administrative and recruiting areas who also match up with his coaching style and goals. Good luck to him and UNC.

Brilliant hire for UNC. Absolutely nothing to lose. Hire a big name to hopefully drum up support and more importantly $$$.
If he somehow manages to win games, that is a win, win, win.
If he continues losing like I’m sure they will, it’s still a win.

The name won't put butts in the seats, or money in the coffers. He needs to win, then the name is a bonus.

Meanwhile in Greeley....

UNCU is going to need more than a coach with a name to fix its' woes.

In case you have not noticed yet, the Tribune has stopped reporting on all UNC athletics, besides the once-in-a-while major stories. I'm not joking. I have emailed the Tribune and the reply I got was that the school does not generate enough interest from readers. I doubt this is the true reason. Something else is going on here...I suggest filling their inboxes with complaints. You need to write to Bryce Jacobson at bjacobson@greeleytribune.

Maybe long term but in the short term big name hires always put butts in seats and bring in money. Winning games determines if that’s for more than a season or two.

Portland State didn't do very well with Glanville.CelticCat wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 5:07 pm2, 2018 and 2019.![]()

It's hard for me to wrap my head around the fact the Rams head coach was a high school quarterback for Marist in 2002 and Billy Napier was Dabo's first offensive coordinator at Clemson while he was in his twenties. I know a lot of people have tried to talk Manning into coaching Tennessee.
