I guarantee you the FBS playoffs will be expanded as soon as the current contract expires, and I wouldn't be surprised if they try to figure out a way to do it even before that. They'll expand to 8 teams as soon as they possibly can. There's no doubt in my mind about that. I'd like to see 16 teams, but it may be awhile before that happens, if ever.

I'm certain you are correct. Without a doubt. Meanwhile, I'll sit back for the next ten years and watch the current four team format play out the contract. Then, without a doubt, the Power 5 will closely examine their options and dependent upon how many wanna be teams made their select cash cow bold games, they'll get together and decide whether they want to leave it in the current format, expand by two or four teams for the next ten to 15 years or tell the NCAA good bye. Meanwhile, I'm going fishing because those folks could really give a rats arse what all of us out here in the middle of no place think. Now, if it were North Dakota, they might let them in the room to listen to what they decide to do.

I think 8 would be perfect. Then it is still a VERY big deal to make the playoffs, and the playoffs wouldn't take forever. I feel very confident that the best team in the country could be captured in a field of 8 and it would keep all of the matchups very competitive all the way through.

I think you could even do a reasonably fun tournament pool with that many teams ... although maybe you'd need to add points for each round to get some more details into the scoring.

16 teams seems like such a manageable number. There will be scheduling issues, but all of these are manageable and the key to these issues: big $$$$. 8 bowl games could host first round games and they go from page 5 of the sports section to the front page. Every game is a sellout and an easy money maker. Just the TV revenue would guarantee participating teams large profits. FCS makes it work with a small budget. Imagine the possibilities when you have Notre Dame, Ohio State, USC, Alabama and Oregon in the playoffs. Add in a long shot like Houston last year and you have a ratings bonanza.
