Utah BB Cancels Series with BYU
I saw this a little bit ago and ran into it today. I find that it is interesting that the Utes cancelled next years series with BYU due to BYU playing too rough. I know I've seen comments about cheap shots during football games. So it makes me wonder is there a culture at BYU to play rough, throw some cheap shots to make themselves seem tough?

Re: Utah BB Cancels Series with BYU
I remember a tv program about the University of Miami years ago when they were always considered the bad boys of college football and they were interviewing ex Miami players about their reputation. They said that they tried to cultivate that image, but that the most dirty games they played were against Notre Dame and BYU. The rivalry with Notre Dame was big, because it was labeled the Catholics-vs-Convicts, but he said the worst things he ever heard on the bottom of a pile playing BYU. My guess is that those boys need a coffee or a beer to take the edge off.WeedKillinCat wrote:I saw this a little bit ago and ran into it today. The University of Utah has also cancelled future football and basketball games with Utah State, and basketball games they had scheduled with Weber State. Now that their in the Pac-12, the don't seem to want to play any of the in-state teams anymore.

Re: Utah BB Cancels Series with BYU
I don't think there is any doubt that BYU is among the dirtiest teams in every sport. Check out the proverbial straw that led to this-BYU player with a history of ejections in high school sucker punched the Utah player. That was the kind of punch that routinely gets guys kicked off teams or long term suspensions.
Roger Trammel-hits a guy in the bar. Kicked off the team.
Lagarret Blount-punches a guy on the field after the game. Oregon suspends him for the season (reinstates him after 8 games)
BYU-guy with a history of flagrant fouls, dirty plays, and ejections, sucker punches a opposing player on the court. BYU doesn't take action. (The conference suspends the d-bag for the game against Weber State)
BYU-O-lineman punches a guy in the nuts during a normal football play. No punishment.
BYU-Players instigate a brawl at their bowl game on national TV last year. 5 or 6 guys get suspended for a meaningless game.
Ask Nebraska fans-BYU players target guys knees. They play with the intention of knocking players out of games.
Check out the discussion threads on this latest one. BYU fans routinely defend their players. Its always some other guys fault for playing physical that makes the BYU player snap. BYU players never deserve it, because they are victims of religious intolerance. These guys are absolute thugs, and everyone who has ever played in a conference with them knows it. The administration always "handles matters internally" and nothing ever changes. The behavior is condoned by fans, faculty, and administration.
If you don't believe me, go to a game in Provo. But don't take your kids. The fans in Provo make Philly look like the church choir.
Best decision Utah could have ever made.

They have BYU football on the schedule every year until at least 2021.NavyBlue wrote:The University of Utah has also cancelled future football and basketball games with Utah State, and basketball games they had scheduled with Weber State. That's an automatic 10 games already due to 9 conference games, and they don't gain much in recruiting by playing Utah State as well.
Cancelling both Utah State and Weber State in basketball isn't great, but it's also one of the reasons why Washington stopped scheduling Gonzaga. There is nothing to gain by losing to in-state teams in lesser conferences.
Seattle to Billings to Missoula to Bozeman to Portland to Billings

Just want to warn everyone to be careful what they say about BYU.
All right you little rascals, gather 'round:
In case you didn't know it's a Mormon college.
Dum-dum, dum, dum, dum.
Full of religion and other knowledge.
Dum-dum, dum, dum, dum.
They probably don't injure players on other teams. I think God does that as punishment for them not believing in the Book of Mormon. This is nothing for God. Back when Jesus lived in the United States and the Native Americans (they all came from Jerusalem, according to Joseph Smith, who was told this by the Angel Moroni, who was one of the good Native Americans that didn't get turned red) that were here killed all his followers, he turned their skin red and these are the Native Americans you know today.

The amount of justification for the actions of BYU's athletes down here among Cougar fans is astounding. No wonder they keep behaving like jackholes, they are encouraged to do so and there is absolutely no ramifications for their actions. Unless, you know, they get caught drinking a beer or having sex with a girlfriend.

Updated info:
Coach Krysko is paying $80,000 OUT OF HIS OWN POCKET to NOT play BYU
http://www.ksl.com/?sid=38117753&nid=29 ... d=queue-10
"SALT LAKE CITY — Multiple apologies in the moment were not enough. Neither was a subsequent public admittance of wrongdoing and a formal sanction.
Larry Krystkowiak demanded more. And when nothing came his way, the Utah coach reached into his pocket and took drastic action.
Several discussion points arose during Krystkowiak's half hour session with the media to explain the Utah coach's decision to literally buy his way out of playing BYU next season. Chief among them is the future of the basketball rivalry, which has been played consecutively for more than one century except for one year during World War II. Citing the overheated nature of the series, Krystkowiak will personally pay the $80,000 buyout for not playing the game next season in Provo as the contract dictated."

There was no formal sanction from BYU. The d-bag was suspended for ONE game by the conference. From a kid who has a history of ejections. Ash kicked Roger Trammel off the football team for less. Oregon (not exactly known for their discipline) suspended Legarret Blount for 75% of a football season for less.JDoub wrote:Updated info:

I'd take punches too if I knew the worst that was going to happen was a one game slap on the wrist in a meaningless non-conference game. BYU fans and administration implicitly encourage this. No power 5 conference will take BYU in for football. I hope the WCC kicks them out for basketball. Pretty soon, these thugs will have no way to schedule a full season.

Personal request, can we save the religious debates for the discussing the issues board? And also along that lines, regardless of you feelings about any religion please be respectful. It's a pretty safe bet no matter what religion it is, there is possibly someone in BobcatNation that subscribes to it. Debate and discussion are great, just be respectful.

I can agree with that to a point. I mean, as long as the religion subscribes to "live and let live" I'm happy to oblige because I don't care what other people believe as it doesn't affect my life. The exception is Muslims. As long as they continue to kill us, they aren't going to get any respect, not from me anyway. Barbarism should be treated with disdain and contempt, not respect and dignity.kmax wrote:Personal request, can we save the religious debates for the discussing the issues board? While I am not the biggest BYU fan, but Im with them on this, rivalry games get heated, tempers flare, it's not worth canceling a rivalry series that has only not been played once since World war 2.
Now Utah has no basketball rivalries, since they refuse to play any of them.

Hold the kid accountable. 6-8 game suspension would prove the point. But, like I said, everyone from the ball boy to the university president endorses this behavior in Provo. It isn't the heat of the moment in a rivalry, it's a calculated strategy.WSUWILDCAT wrote:While I am not the biggest BYU fan, but Im with them on this, rivalry games get heated, tempers flare, it's not worth canceling a rivalry series that has only not been played once since World war 2.
