Rondey Stuckey Gone for good
It is being reported that Rodney Stuckey of EWU has recently signed with an agent and as such has lost all of his NCAA elligabity. This years draft is being called the deepest draft top to bottom is maybe 10-15 years. Last year (which was widely considered the weakest in 10 years) Stuckey projected as a late 1st round. This year he is going to have some very good pre-Draft camps and work outs to get himself into the first round. Only first round players are get guarenteed multi-year contracts.
Good luck Rodney
Good luck Rodney

We need to route for Stuckey to do well, in the Draft and the NBA, because it will help this league. There are sometimes players who have connections to certain low to mid major schools, but when it comes time to sign letters of intents they are often convinced by so called larger schools that if they want to have a chance at the NBA or pro ball they need to go to the larger of school.
If Stucky is successful it will allow schools like MSU to point towards Stuckey and let them know they can play at a smaller school and still be a number one draft pick, and NBA player if they have the talent. Playing at MSU will not hurt their ablity to get to the Pro's. As a matter of fact I can hear Huse or Sprinkle right now tell a big time recruit, "hey you like the MSU program don't you, Come on board and be MSU's Rodney Stuckey". Success for Stuckey can only lead to positives for the Big Sky conference.

I have seen about 6 mock Drafts and Stuckey seem to winning over folks. The highest I have seen him going is 15th and the lowest is 25th all in the first round. There is a rumor out their that he has a guarantee from the pistons that they will take him (25th) if he is still available. The thing to remember 1 st round picks get three year guaranteed money contracts. There is a big difference for a player being picked 30th (last pick in the 1st round) and 31st (first pick in the 2nd round).

Can you name all of the players from the BSC that have been drafted in the first round? M. Ray Richardson comes to mind. Who else???

He's the only one in the 44-year history of the Big Sky conference according to their website.gtapp wrote:mslacat wrote:We need to route for Stuckey to do well, in the Draft and the NBA, because it will help this league. At least they won though right? Oh yeah. Their team was horrible.whitetrashgriz wrote:unfortunately, "in check" usually meant he only scored 25 to 30!1BadBobcat wrote:Best of luck Rodney! Do the Big Sky proud - you were fun to watch. Fortunately, the Cats usually did a fairly good job of keeping you in check!

I found a mock draft with Stuckey going 19th to the Lakers. I also saw him projected to go #15 to the Pistons. I'd like to see him in a Lakers uniform. I am happy to see a BSC player projected this high. I really didn't think a Big Sky Conf. player would ever go this high with no hype whatsoever. It makes me wonder how high he would go if he played for a team with a lot of exposure.mslacat wrote:I have seen about 6 mock Drafts and Stuckey seem to winning over folks. Now that draft week has rolled around I checked the latest mock on ESPN and Chad Ford still has Stucky at 15! To get a Big Sky player going that early in the draft is pretty impressive. Here is what they say on ESPN.comCat in NC wrote:The latest (third version) of the Fox Sports mock still has him at 15 to Detroit. Even if it's a few picks later...WOW!
The skinny: At this point the Pistons will take the best player that slides to them. Al Thornton, Nick Young and Stuckey are all on the radar screen here.
Stuckey would be an excellent fit in Detroit. The Pistons need someone who can put pressure on defenses and play both positions in the backcourt.

I'm anxious to see where Stuckey lands. I found this article about him while I sit and wait to see him get drafted
http://www.nba.com/draft2007/stuckey_070627.html
Stucky has now been drafted. He went #15 to Detroit, as projected. I was keeping my fingers cross he would have slipped down and the Lakers would have snagged him at #19

I wonder what made him change his mind? Here's some quotes from an interview with the Eastern Washington sports editor in January.tetoncat wrote:He kind of dissed EWU on his interview saying he was a non qualifier and they were willing to take a chance on him so he went there and made due with what he had around him.

"I'm staying," Stuckey said on Tuesday. "I'll be back for another year for sure."
Those words are what every Eastern basketball fan undoubtedly wants to hear.
The 6-foot, 5-inch guard from Kent, Wash., hears the talk and the hype, but it's just not what is on his mind right now. Stuckey is concentrating on this season and his schooling, he said.
"I try not to pay attention to all that stuff. It's hard when you hear things on TV and read things in the magazines, but I just try not to listen to all of that."
With all Stuckey has accomplished in his short time in Cheney, it would be impossible to not hear any hype.
Fresh off leading his Kentwood High School Conquerors to the 2004 State 4A title, Stuckey arrived on campus, but could not participate due to NCAA academic eligibility requirements. The year away from basketball helped him focus on his studies, he said, and he continues to do so to this day.
"Without a doubt, being a three-point student is something I'm really proud of and my family is proud of it too," Stuckey said. "That's what I'm trying to do while I'm here, get a degree. It's not all about basketball."
Despite some publications claiming he was "passed over" by bigger schools, Stuckey strongly proclaims he came exactly where he wanted.
"I chose this school. I chose to come here," Stuckey said. "I didn't get passed over. I'm happy to be here."
He already knows how to play to the crowd.
