Mike Hickman
LB • 6-1 • 235 • Milbrae, Calif./Foothill JC
Enrolled at Sacramento State midyear
Named second team All-America by JC Gridwire and was a first team Region 1 selection by the California Community College Football Coaches Association…also named first team all-Northern California Football Conference in 2006…led the team with 72 total tackles during the regular season despite missing one game…averaged 8.0 tackles per game…had 37 solo stops and 35 assisted tackles…also ended the year with two tackles-for-loss, three fumble recoveries and one forced fumble…was named the MVP of the Silicon Valley Bowl after helped the Owls to a 24-0 shutout of Sierra College.

LB • 6-1 • 210 • Sacramento, Calif./Sacramento City JC
Enrolled at Sacramento State midyear
Earned third team All-America honors by JC Gridwire following his sophomore season…was named the 2006 Mid-Empire Defensive MVP and garnered first team all-league honors…finished the year with 53 total tackles (32 solo)…also had 3.5 tackles-for-loss, four interceptions, two pass breakups and one forced fumble…returned his four interceptions 54 yards…played for former Hornet head coach Mike Clemons and defensive back Dannie Walker at Sacramento City…prepped at Jesuit HS in Sacramento.
Zack Nash
LB/DE • 6-3 • 240 • Vacaville, Calif./Vacaville HS
A two-time all-Monticello Empire League selection…was also named honorable mention all-metro by the Sacramento Bee and all-Sac Joaquin Section following his senior season…helped lead Vacaville HS to the 2006 Sac-Joaquin Section Div. I title and a 14-1 overall record…led the team with 118 total tackles, including 70 solo stops…tallied eight sacks and also had one interception…had at least 10 tackles in four games, including 15 against both Laguna Creek and Napa…had six tackles in a 16-7 semifinal victory over Elk Grove…added seven more stops in the team’s 37-36 win over Merced to secure the section title…is also a member of the Bulldogs’ baseball team.
Greg Johnson
DB • 6-2 • 205 • Downey, Calif./St. John Bosco HS
Named all-Trinity League following his senior season…finished the year with 53 total tackles, including 40 solo stops…also had one interception, forced a fumble and had a fumble recovery…best game came against Orange Lutheran where he had 10 tackles, including three for loss…earned the team’s coach’s award and captain’s award…also played soccer and volleyball for the Braves.

Was named the Pioneer Valley League Lineman of the Year in 2006…also named all-PVL following his junior and senior seasons…helped lead the Fighting Zebras to a 6-5 overall record and a 4-2 mark in league games in 2006…also participated in one year of basketball and three years of track and field.

Named honorable mention all-metro by the Sacramento Bee and first team all-Delta Valley League following his senior season…rushed for 1,304 yards and 15 touchdowns during the 2006 season…averaged 5.72 yards per carry on 228 attempts…averaged 144.9 yards per game…also had 11 receptions for 117 yards…best rushing performance came against Florin HS where he had 332 yards, three touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions…rushed for over 100 yards in seven of his eight games…had only seven carries in his one sub-100-yard game…was second in the Delta River League in rushing…also played baseball and basketball for the Cardinals…was named first team all-league and honorable mention all-city in baseball as a junior.

DB • 6-1 • 185 • Sacramento, Calif./Grant HS
Recorded 37 tackles as a member of Grant’s undefeated team in 2006…helped lead the Pacers to the Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II title…the team’s defense was dominant as it outscored the opposition, 591-67, during the season…that total included six shutouts…had at least one tackle in every game in which he appeared…biggest game came against Bakersfield where he had nine total tackles, including seven solo…is also a member of the Pacer basketball and baseball teams.

Named first team all-South Coast League following his senior season…concluded the 2006 season with 31 receptions for 737 yards and eight receiving touchdowns…had at least one reception in every game…top performance came against Vista where he had five grabs 112 yards and two touchdowns…also had two touchdowns against Capistrano Valley and Long Beach Jordan.

A first team all-Eastern League selection at receiver…helped lead St. Augustine to a 10-3 overall record…team won its final seven games, including a 17-7 decision over Point Loma to win the San Diego Section Div. III title…ended the year with 45 receptions for 553 yards and eight touchdowns…had at least two catches in 12 games…also had nine carries for 32 yards and a score…as a defensive back, he had 44 total tackles and eight interceptions.

OL • 6-7 • 260 • Inglewood, Calif./St. Bernard HS
Played three years of varsity football for St. Bernard HS in Playa Del Rey, Calif…spent his first two years on the defensive line before adding offensive line responsibilities as a senior…lists his best game as having three sacks against Culver City.

You're right... He had "shoulder problems" last year. Word has it he clashed with Mooshagian big time. He has been slamming Sac State in the local Poly papers. Too late to find the link, but it shouldn't be too hard to find. Sperbeck is bringing in a 2-star RB and a 3-Star RB which will compete for PT (The 2-Star is a Frosh and should RS in my opinion). I really think that Sperbeck's local JC ties will help Sac in the long run. From the couple times I've seen him/heard him speak I can tell this man is on a mission. Let's all hope to see an improved Hornet team next year for the good of the BSC.
