WBB at Weber
Cats up 21-16 after the first in an unusually high scoring game for them (so far). This game means nothing in terms of tournament seeding but I'm sure they don't want to go into the Tourney on a 3-game losing streak.
Cats by 8 at the half, 38-30. Hope they can take this outside shooting to Boise with them!

Refs’ whistles broken during the last five minutes when we have the ball. Homer job.
Well, at least they got the very last call right.

Cats win 67-65. They almost had their men's Portland State moment after leading by 15 in the fourth quarter but hung on. Horrible job by the officials late, zero whistles even when Weber was intentionally hacking our players on the arm.

That was some horrific reffing with no calls down the stretch. Unbelievable. Glad we won.

Boy howdy. 2 Cats get fouled, no call, ball goes out of bounds and they give it to Weber.
Cats hang on for the win.!!
Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14.

Great coaching by Binford at the end to (1) not blow up and get a technical and (2) foul Weber to run a few extra seconds off the clock on their final possession.
Not that it matters much, but with the win and UNC's loss the Bobcats move up to the #4 seed for the tournament. Coach Binford also clinched her 17th consecutive season of finishing with a .500 or higher record, which is pretty remarkable!

Re: WBB at Weber
Fourth in the conference, I'll take it given the challenges the team had this year. 1/3 of the team out due to injuries. A number of games where that number increased so at times we only had 8 players available. What I see as a great class of recruits, yes they are young (that's how freshman start) but because of their skill they stepped up well. Not too many teams can have our record when they have to play 4 or 5 freshman at a time. You wouldn't have had me convinced the way this season started that we would have finished fourth. This team has a lot of talent and is very competitive. I think there is great potential we get to the semifinals and if the day is right we could land in the Championship game.MSU01 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 8:54 pm

Re: WBB at Weber
They did the right thing and fouled at the end when Weber inbounded, but they should have done it again on the next inbound. Instead they gave up a 3 attempt and were very lucky it did not go in. I have to remind myself that they are so injury-riddled, sometimes their play is very frustrating.

Bin was probably afraid that given the lack of foul calls on apparent intentional fouls to force free throws toward the end of the game, they'd foul and it wouldn't get called until a shot was heaved up, and give up 3 free throws.
Absolutely the correct decision to do it when they did with ball near half court, much tougher once Weber was in shooting range.

Yeah, the Weber coach made a nice adjustment after the first foul to inbound the ball closer to the basket. I think MSU defended it about as well as they could have without risking getting called for a shooting foul. If I were Binford I certainly wouldn't have trusted that crew to make the right call after they couldn't see the Weber players grabbing and hacking arms to try and foul.

I think that included both teams, both staffs, the referees, the announcers, and the security detail.

Don't forget the bus driver and the pizza guy who delivered MSU's post-game meal.
