Don't forget we for sure need someone managing Troy's pitch count as well.

Re: Depth Chart / Starters
Hopefully this is the year we finally have enough depth in the LB corps to plug and play without a huge drop off in play between the 1’s and 2’s.

Re: Depth Chart / Starters
I think Schneider and the other Helena kid were removed from the team this winter/spring.
Side note, does it drive anyone else crazy that we have people listed as "Cornerback" "CB" "Defensive Back" "Safety" and "S"? The secondary is the worst, but it's similar for the OL and DL positions as well.

Seth didn't make the team after spring. Speigelberg and Joe Olson are two freshman running backs who got hurt in their high school all-star games this summer. Speigelberg may greyshirt or joint the team when school starts.

Re: Depth Chart / Starters
When it comes to LB, I hope that the three main players are Andersen, Hill, and Askelson.
Now with Hill, we don't know how much he can play, and Andersen might have limited defensive snaps too.
I think Jobman is a good backup and average at best starter. Dependable, but doesn't make any plays.
Chad Kanow is interesting. Really good freshman year, last year he struggled bc of injury. He's up to 235 now...has he retained his burst? Either way, if he's a backup, you're in good shape.
Callahan sounds like he's doing well at Mike, Hardy is athletic as all get out but does he have the mental part down? Gilman just screams playmaker to me. Lot of depth. It's a really good unit.

Re: Depth Chart / Starters
I know these all star games are supposed to be a big honor, but I believe the time has come to close them out. I started in the Shrine game in Great Falls, got a leg injury and arrived in Bozeman on a full scholarship unfit for service. We had a running back heading for Stanford who got a knee injury. He was never the same and was gone from Stanford after his freshman season. You have supposedly the best vs. the best and that's just not the case. Some of the guys on our "all-star" team would not have started on my high school team. Basic offenses and defenses are put in in a hurry. Missed blocks and other mix-ups, the general lack of ability to make real adjustments, etc. etc. put guys in bad places/situations. If I remember right that game started in about 1951. I'll bet the number of career ending or dimmishing injuries in the nearly 70 years of that game are unbelievable.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 10:10 amSeth didn't make the team after spring. Think of it as another version of the annual Bobcat spring game. How many guys have we lost outright in those games? I don't even think Choate likes them.

Actually it's because OLBs in some schemes do a lot of defensive end things.

Troy is up to 240 apparently... he is going to kill some poor WRs or RBs in this league.

Are we going to see a depth chart released this week or will we have to wait another week for game week?

Probably will have to wait until Monday of game week.

I thought I heard coach say something in the presser after the scrimmage that makes me think almost all the 1's have been decided, There are still some 2's and 3's to be determined and they will likely hinge on special teams and the versatility of the player.

I don’t think the ILBs have been determined. I kinda hope Martin, if he’s an ILB, goes there from RB. Or that Hardy plays Sam and Andersen moves inside.cats2506 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 8:55 amI thought I heard coach say something in the presser after the scrimmage that makes me think almost all the 1's have been decided, There are still some 2's and 3's to be determined and they will likely hinge on special teams and the versatility of the player.

You take away many of the things Andersen does well by moving him inside. He's a perfect fit at Sam linebacker. Here is my list of Troy's positional value:bobcat99 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 10:13 amWhy move Andersen inside?iaafan wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 10:05 amI don’t think the ILBs have been determined. Re: Depth Chart / Starters
Wow, have we ever had someone at MSU that you could discuss in terms like that? I would not question Vim's knowledge but here is where I would put Troy. Obviously, I wouldn't make a very good D coordinator.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 10:19 amYou take away many of the things Andersen does well by moving him inside. Re: Depth Chart / Starters
Sounds like the coaches met with all the players yesterday and they discussed roles and I imagine whether they redshirt or not. I would think after these conversations that the depth charts are basically finalized but I doubt we see anything until game week. Here is a blurb about it from Greg Rachac in an article about the scrimmage.cats2506 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 8:55 amI thought I heard coach say something in the presser after the scrimmage that makes me think almost all the 1's have been decided, There are still some 2's and 3's to be determined and they will likely hinge on special teams and the versatility of the player.

http://406mtsports.com/college/big-sky- ... 76526.htmlSunday is “roll call” day for the team, meaning the coaches will meet with each player individually to clarify roles and explain expectations. The Bobcats will return to practice Monday to begin its “mock” game-week preparation for their Aug. 31 opener at Texas Tech.
