New Coaching Compensation Plan
So for the next MSU head coaching contract, this is what I advised the department.
Base Salary - $125,000 +
Winning Season - $25,000 bonus. +
Top 30% FBS Defense on a mix of stats - $25,000 bonus. +
Making the playoffs - $25,000 bonus. +
If winning season, beat the Griz - $40,000 or
If winning season, make playoffs and beat the Griz - $60,000 or
If losing season, beat the Griz - $26,500

It's not bad, but it's too hung up on the griz. And what about playoff wins, and bonus for a national championship?

I'd assume that MSU has access to a database that lays out the comps from other programs around the country from which they can craft a comp package that is likely to attract, retain and motivate the best talent. It's hard to do any of this sort of thing without good data to start from.

Nah, it has to be a key component whether you win or lose. It just comes up a lot because I would make it a kicker.91catAlum wrote:It's not bad, but it's too hung up on the griz. And what about playoff wins, and bonus for a national championship?

Maybe $10,000 for each playoff win? Need to think in terms of kickers.
Natty. +$100,000?

If we want to attract quality applicants the base better be higher than that.

I know that social media tends to bring out a lot of very strong opinions on topics from we the masses on questions we know nothing about, but I just don't see any upside to pulling something out of my ass on this topic. I'm sure whatever MSU comes up with will make a lot more sense that whatever comes out of any of our asses.Counter Assault wrote:Comon. Opine. Re: New Coaching Compensation Plan
This is a horrible payment option. How about this
1. Win a National Championship----$1,000,000
2. Don't and you get $175,000 plus a hot tub.

C'mon still with the hot tub gig? This board has to get some new material if we really want to attract the next best HCGoCats18 wrote:This is a horrible payment option. How about this

Not one single quality coach would sign a contract anything like that.GoCats18 wrote:This is a horrible payment option. How about this

Re: New Coaching Compensation Plan
USA Today has the compensation package of every college coach to include the majority of assistant coaches of all the public institutions in America. It is kind of foolish to think MSU is going to get a name coach on a high school coaches salary, it really is. As far as the assistant coaches, one would think they all understand the last legislative session the state TRS will limit their retirement to a ten percent increase in computing their annuity upon retirement. This is another aspect the Athletic Department must inform all the young coaches of entering into contract negotiations each year. I would hope MSU is willing to pay a competitive salary and we have great success.

Re: New Coaching Compensation Plan
I'd bet Ash's payday would be around that if we won the FCS title. His bonus for the National Championship alone was $50k, along with increasing bonuses for each playoff win.fsburr1 wrote:Wasn't Bohl paid over 300k at NDSU?

Re: New Coaching Compensation Plan
But they most probably won't wonder far from the established salaries. I don't see them allowing one competitive school to have an advantage over another
