Not only that, but coaches' jobs are also to continue to go out and find players that are better than what is currently on the roster. Choate used to preach this to his players all the time. He said he was always trying to bring in players better than what is currently on the team at all positions... so if you want to keep your spot and keep seeing the field you need to continue to improve and get better, every play and every day. Ya it's kind of harsh but the way the world works sometimes.

I frickin love it!

Actually teaching these kids how the real world works and how to be successful…. About the opposite of what today’s world is usually preaching. You want a job then you better work hard, cuz it’s not just gonna be handed to you!

Didn't see enough good things out of Chika and Jaden to feel confident they can contribute a great deal to a championship team. Maybe need to make a move there?
Letting a player you recruited go because someone better may be available the following year bothers me. If the player keeps his nose clean and works hard I think his scholarship should be honored.
What do you think happened to Nick Gazelas, Alex Germer, or Borja Fernandez from that last few years? Germer and Nick G were in the portal before Sprinkle left for USU
I understand it happens but I don’t like the idea of forcing a player out. That is just how I feel.
With the Transfer Portal making it so easy these days for players to switch teams, I doubt many players are "forced out" who want to stay. Hopefully, the coaching staff is having honest conversations with the players at the end of the season to evaluate their progress and discuss their potential role on the team moving forward. If it makes sense for a player to look elsewhere to continue their career, then they are and should be free to make that decision. Coach Logie in particular seems to me like a coach who will emphasize player development over the Portal, other than of course this past year when he was forced to heavily use the Portal to build a full roster of Division 1 caliber players. On the other hand, we also have to realize that without using the Transfer Portal as effectively as they have, MSU would still be looking waaaaaaay back to 1996 for its last NCAA Tournament appearance.
Yeah that's the way I feel. As long as you're honest with a player about his potential, I see no reason to hang on to a kid that won't help you win games over time, unless of course we're talking about guys like Carter who are good practice players and don't cost you much to keep around.

The day of MT scholarship players is gone in my opinion. Walking on will be the only way and unfortunately they are viewed and critiqued differently. They have two choices sit on the bench and enjoy the ride or go somewhere else and play. MT is just to rural to produce D1 ball players.

Agreed. The rare D1 prospect out of Montana probably isn't going to stick around if he's that good.

Yeah, I think we have to take the good with the bad. I am a staunch advocate for playing multiple sports. I think that helps football players tremendously, and I think it helps all athletes at some level. But it doesn't help basketball players as much from a development standpoint, and it hurts them from a skill standpoint. They're competing for college scholarships against kids who are playing year-round. But it's fine--Montana kids are too short anyway! If we had a pile of 6'7"-6'10" kids playing football and baseball, I might change my tune. But these 6'1" forwards in Montana don't need to be putting all their eggs in the basketball basket

With that type of basketball talent then is it against rules for a coach to reach out to other D2 coaches and let them know about the D1 kid that might fit their program? After talking to that specific player.

Sprinkle did that with the kid who transferred to the College of Idaho.

Jackson Grant was spotted at the Ridge today playing basketball. Wonder if he is meeting with Logie? We need a big guy.

Personally I wouldn't, because the last time he was 1000% committed and only 100 would be a major downgrade.

Was it a 1000%? Dang, now that is committed. Well, until it isn’t.

I didn't realize Rutherford was a walk on. Will Carter Ash be back for one more year, or is he graduating and heading to med school?

So the transfer portal has approximately 3 more weeks left in it. When can we feel like the remaining members of the team are a safe bet for the next year? Or is that ever a thing?
