WBB 2019 recruiting Class

Post by mslacat » Thu Oct 25, 2018 3:03 pm

I have been following ASGR basketball for the last 5-6 month. They have been ranking women's basketball recruit conference as well as nationally. Montana and Montana State have been at the top of the ranking since I started watching. Montana State is currently ranked as having the best recruiting class for 2018-19, and Montana #2. What pushed Montana State to a solid #1 was the recent commitment of PG Darian White. She is rated as our best recruit this season. Here are Montana State and Montana's recruiting class (so far).

Montana State
Player Ht/Pos. National rank
Darian White 5'-6" PG #128 (highest ranked Big Sky 2018 recruit so far)
Kola Bad Bear 6'-2" PF #948
McKenzie Stumne 5'-11" WF #971

Montana
Player Ht/Pos. National rank
Jamie Pickens 6'-1" PF #388
Samantha Fatkin 5'-10" PG #425 (this #425 best D-1 transfer)

Now if you are a Big Sky women's basketball recruit nut, you may notice a missing player on Montana States list, and you would be correct. Bobcat transfer Fallyn Freije (former 2 time Big Sky all conference player). Rumor has it ASGR has been notified of the omission and they will be updating their list shortly, which should further solidify Binford #1 recruiting class. Also keep in mind that MSU has filled all of their 2019 scholarships and is actually working next years class.

She should be OK for basketball next year. It'll be almost a year.

I also think we will be pretty stocked at the forward spots her freshman year, so if needed she could red shirt her freshman year.

Binford has added another recruit to her 2019 class which. The signing day by the way is next Wednesday November 14th, when recruits are allowed to sign. It last a week and ends on the 21st. The new recruit is 5-9 SG Madison Jackson of Parma high school in Idaho (again near Boise). She was the 3A Snake River Conf. player of the year and all state 3A first team. Parma made it to the state semi-final last year. She averaged 18.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 2 blocks a game last season. Jackson is a scorer and faced double and triple teams all season last year. The Bobcats were the first D-1 team to offer he about 18 months back. She had offers from all three Idaho D-1 schools, Eastern Washington, Montana and a few others. It is kind of interesting that in the past 2 month three prospects from the Boise Idaho areas have committed to the Bobcats program in 2019 5-9 SG Madison Jackson: 2019 5'-6" PG Darian White and 2020 5'-8" PG/SG Ava Ranson. It is my understanding they all three played on the same AAU basketball team and know each other well.

It's so interesting to see MSU recruiting the Boise area so hard in both football and women's basketball. I guess Boise is emerging as a bonafide metropolitan area in the intermountain west. There are players to be gotten there. Especially with Boise State recruiting nationally and over some of the kids in their back yard. But it's surprising too because Boise is not that easy to get to from Bozeman. It's not a direct flight like Seattle, Denver, and Minneapolis, and it takes forever to drive there. But hey-if it works, more power to us!

Boise is a largely untapped bed of talent - lots of kids maybe not quite big/fast enough to play at BSU, but there's a lot of talented kids that fly under the radar just like Montana kids, just because of the geography. I sure do miss the old days (when I first moved here in 2006) of Big Sky Airlines, we had a direct flight to Bozeman that usually only cost about $125-150, those were the days! Even now though, it's only a 6.5-7 hour drive, so it's pretty easy for parents to drive up for games (and a lot cheaper than if they were flying even from SLC or Denver). It can be boring, but it's really not that bad of a drive. Plus, we have drive-able games from Boise to Pocatello, Ogden, Missoula, Moscow, Portland, and even Cheney. It's a smart move for MSU to recruit the Boise area. And obviously, I'm biased!

It's all about connections too. Binford played at BSU and Choate is from Idaho, has a brother coaching down there, and has staff with ties there i.e. Matt Miller.

The say to win the WBB Big Sky Conf. championship you need a dynamic point guard who can control the tempo of the game and score in bunches. Binford may have found another point guard to fill that role.

Signing day tomorrow
