2018-19 Basketball Rosters

Post by mslacat » Fri Jun 29, 2018 10:35 am

Well Binford's women Bobcats have posted their 2018-19 roster on MSUBobcats.com. The men still have the 2017-18 roster up on the site and given past performances I would not expect to to updated until November to the end of the football season (in that range). The women's roster features 13 scholarship players as well as 1 walk-on. That leaves Binford's team still with 2 open scholarships currently, that they still could fill this summer for the 2018-10 season. With, though, only 1 senior on the roster and two 2019 commits already I think Binford will stay pat on this roster unless a player comes to good to pass up decides they want to play for the Bobcats next season.

I will be waiting with bated breath to see the Men's roster later this year, if for nothing else, but to see which of our 2018 recruit have shrunk since we signed them and by how much.

Any new word on potential new players or a suppsoed player who is possibly leaving. I would think by now things would have materialized and kids gotta make decisions soon.

New Player: I hear Fish is scouring the Transfer List and has a few targets, but I have no idea who they may be. I looked on Verbal Commits list of transfers and there appears to be 150-200 players looking for new homes with still more trickling (4 in the last 48 hours). I feel confident Fish will sign someone but I think he will do it when he gets the player he wants. I think he is looking for an impact player regardless of position. If it was me, I would be looking for a transfer who could play with-out sitting out 2018-19 and help THIS year (for obvious reasons) but I get the feeling if Fish found a really great player who needed to sit out a transfer year he might do that. I keep hearing/reading quotes from Fish mentioning how he found Blevin's in mid to late August two year ago so I think that is a clue he will willing to wait to find his guy.

Player Leaving: From the minute the season ended and maybe before I was hearing from multiple and completely separate sources that a player was looking to move on. By his choice and the coaches were assisting him in finding a new home. As time has past and there has been no announcement, to date, I have been wondering whether the rumor(s) were false. About two weeks ago I contacted a couple of my sources and again asked them if they though the player was leaving. All sources told me to the effect "he is leaving, the coaches will not announce anything until they find him a landing spot". To be honest it should not be too difficult to find this guy a landing spot. Also coaches have to report to the NCAA all scholarship renewals for the up coming season. This report is generally due some time in mid-late June (I am too lazy to look this years exact date up). Once a University includes a existing players name on that list that player's scholarship is guaranteed for the coming season. It used to be but I think it has changed that that scholarship could not then be given to another (new) player even if the former player on the list chose not return. It is now July. It would seem to me that decisions should have already been made on under class-men scholarships by now. If I don't hear anything in the next week or so I have to assume that the rumors I heard was just that rumors and no one else is planning on leaving.

Mslacat, I respect the Cats' process and the privacy of the player involved. But this sentence troubles me. "To be honest it should not be too difficult to find this guy a landing spot." I understand this to mean that it is one of the Cats' better players that will be leaving. Is that correct?

As always, thank you for your insight and your "insider" sources.

If a player is willing to step down, (D-2, D-3, NAIA or even a JC they should not have a problem finding a new home. That said, I heard something today that makes me believe the player in question will be returning.

I understand. I guess I have become a pessimist when it comes to the Bobcat men's basketball team.

Yes, it is generally not good news with the Men's basketball program...

Blevins yes Neumann no as he is too much a head fake and then pass. You can predict every move. He is afraid to shoot and will be a senior.

Well the Men's roster for 2018-19 is up on MSUBobcat.com and pretty amazingly all of our freshman showed up on campus at the same height they were in high school. The only real big surprise on the roster is that we have two players named Delvin Kirby on the roster. We have a 6-11 sophmore and a 6-10 junior. That should solve our problems in the post! We have 12 scholarshipped players listed so still 1 short for 2018-19

Not sure if I should pot this in the 2018 recruiting thread or this thread, but this one looks more active. We are one week into August and just 3 weeks until classes start and we still have one roster spot on the Men's team to fill. This after Fish admonished us fans last June in multiple interviews about think of recruiting in out dated time lines. Just because he didn't/couldn't fill a scholarship during the spring signing period does not spell failure, into days transfer happy NCAA basketball many top notch Transfers become available as late as August, maybe even Pac-12 freshman of the year! So far it has been a extremely quiet summer on the 2018 recruiting front. Only one name has pop up and that was 6-7 guard/forward Trey Anderson and I am not sure who serious of a candidate he was. I think this team needs another impact player and preferably someone who can play the 4 or 5 spot, but as the next 21 days tick by the more I feel we may have to go with the 12 currently on the roster.

I mean, when's the last time this wasn't true with the men? The last time we were set at the 4 and 5 spot was, what, that one year Tre Johnson and Mohamed Fall played together? Wasn't that 2012? And the last time they had enough impact players was arguably 2002, arguably longer ago than that

Admonished? I think that's a little dramatic. If he could not get a true impact player, which can be difficult in the spring, let along the summer, carrying an extra scholarship for next year isn't the worst thing.

Good hell. This program is cursed. We don’t need a new coach, we need an exorcist.
