Now that you post that article I remember her public interview and I am pretty sure she was my choice for head coach. Now in my defense I did/could not make it down for Binford's interview.MSU01 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 11:50 amAh, that's why the name sounded so familiar when I first heard it. Here's a Chronicle article from when she interviewed for the job back in 2005:

I feel like Smallwood was pretty clearly the top candidate at the time based on her resume, and she did have a good interview. It's a bit surprising that she has never landed a head coaching job - perhaps she has become happy to just be an assistant at major schools like Washington, Nebraska, Arizona, and Montana State.mslacat wrote: ↑Sat Jun 30, 2018 10:33 amNow that you post that article I remember her public interview and I am pretty sure she was my choice for head coach. In other words, a bail out before being fired?mslacat wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 7:52 amRumor is that the Arizona head coach is on the hot seat this season and they have had quite a few player transfer out. Sunnywood is a defensive specialist and despite only a handful of wins last year Arizona had a tough defense I am told. I think Harris has convinced Binford of the value of having a strong defense coach on staff and that might be what Binford was looking for.
Leave a sinking ship before it goes down completely and takes you with it?

I went to most of the public forums. Jamie White was my to choice, binford close second. Smallwood and the guy (can’t remember his name) were a distant 3rd and 4th.

Interesting bit of scuttle but quite a few candidates for the open Bobcat's men's assistant job, who applied the past two seasons, chose not to appliy this year. Felling is, that it is current Bobcat Director of Basketball Operations, Silvey Dominguez's job to lose.

Hard to get a good assistant when the coach is on the last year of his contract.mslacat wrote: ↑Sun Jul 01, 2018 10:12 amInteresting bit of scuttle but quite a few candidates for the open Bobcat's men's assistant job, who applied the past two seasons, chose not to appliy this year. While there is some truth in that, I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes in this case. Silvey's experience is pretty extensive. The surprise won't be if he gets this job, but that the Bobcats were able to get him as a DBO last year.Hawks86 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 01, 2018 11:15 amHard to get a good assistant when the coach is on the last year of his contract.mslacat wrote: ↑Sun Jul 01, 2018 10:12 amInteresting bit of scuttle but quite a few candidates for the open Bobcat's men's assistant job, who applied the past two seasons, chose not to appliy this year. I will have no problem if Silvey Dominguez, I do prefer a staff with a little bit of diversity in it being up here in Montana, but every time I bring that up I get yelled at so......phantom wrote: ↑Mon Jul 02, 2018 9:40 amWhile there is some truth in that, I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes in this case. Re: One assistant coach opening each for men's and women's hoops
Interesting on the recent hires for assistant coaches:
Women's hire she was smart <> New head coach Ajai Barnes was hired and the staff as well, by AD who bailed after the hire to Alabama. The place in Tucson has been mess since. UA new AD is former tenured assistant AD from Oregon and recently AD from Central Michigan. Even worse --- 2018 UA went 6-21 season and has not had winning record in almost decade. Program is even worse. This coached bailed as the dead pool has started in North Nogales. <> UCLA, ASU, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington and Stanford are national powers. WEAK HIRE.
As for Silvey Domiguez <> Hired a guy who probably a rapid rewards program with Mayflower Movers. Heck since 2008 where has he been <> Air Force, Lamar, New Mexico, Wazzu and now MSU..... What ALL have in common; when he is brought on a staff the coach get gassed. Do your research and probably missed a school or two.
This hire truely tells the TARO Cards in front of Fish after this next season.
