Wow... Good luck Mr Howard...PHAT CAT wrote:Brendan Howard is transferring to MSU-B. Mick starts to build his new team.
Pretty cheap shot!phantom wrote:I thought this kid was a huge miss for Montana State?
Could not agree more with this part! A lot of these upper tier D2 schools would hand MSU their collective a$$ right now. Not saying MSU-B is upper tier yet, but they just might get there with Mick. And I will always support a kid wanting to be a big fish in a small pond. None of them are NBA bound in the end--might as well log as many minutes as possible during your 4-5 year window.mslacat wrote:Yes, he did sacrifice the "I played D-1 basketball" glory to having the chance to be a real star at the D-2 level, but he made a choice to be where he was happy. That's not a cheap shot at the kid at all. It's a cheap shot at all the experts that were up in arms because they didn't feel Fish and the staff did enough to get the kid. It was labeled as a recruiting failure. If you dispute that you are being intellectually dishonest.mslacat wrote:Pretty cheap shot!phantom wrote:I thought this kid was a huge miss for Montana State?
Fish WANTED him and recruited a Bobcat legacy (three times over) HARD, but lost to someone out of state.
He was the only Montana D-1 player, since and moving forward, that Fish really had a chance at.
He had 4 D-1 offers!
Was picked to be the pre-season Big Sky freshman player of the year.
He was signed by a Big Sky coach who knows a lot more about what it takes to win in this league that our own.
I know I know the crux of your post is that Brendan failed at EWU and had to transfer down to a D-2 school. The great thing about it, you know no matter how well Mr. Howard does at MSU-B you can always say but it's only D-2. The problem is that, that Brendan did not transfer because he had had to. His scholarship with EWU was in no danger of of being pulled. There was no talk of him needing to transfer, he was in their plans for next year and beyond. He transferred #1 to join up with his brother (assistant at MSU-B, #2 to be coached by Mick Durham (who is very close to the Howard family) and #3 to be back in Montana. Yes, he did sacrifice the "I played D-1 basketball" glory to having the chance to be a real star at the D-2 level, but he made a choice to be where he was happy. Their is not need to take cheap shots at a guy for that!
You may have aimed at us but you hit Howard! He does not deserve that from anyone!phantom wrote:That's not a cheap shot at the kid at all. My guess is you don't really have an idea of whether his scholarship was or wasn't in danger of being pulled, you're talking out of your rear end. I hope the kid does very well and there's no shame of going to a D2 and having a nice career. It's not the same level and people that know basketball, understand that. That doesn't mean there aren't some very good D2 teams out there. The top echelon is littered with kids that have Division I talent, but didn't work out at the Division I level for a myriad of reasons.
Dang it! There was nothing disparaging directed to Kathleen's son! Kathleen is still one of my favorite Cat players of all time and I doubt she wastes any of her time on this site, but dang it, don't let this site get overrun with Bozo chickenhawks like player rep on the egriz site...the Howard kids were decent high school players in Montana. I think that's all he was saying.mslacat wrote:You may have aimed at us but you hit Howard! He does not deserve that from anyone!phantom wrote:That's not a cheap shot at the kid at all.
