The best article ever written for the Chronicle - Kinkelaar

Okay, so I am biased ... it's about my homeboy, Dylan.

The only minor crit I have of the article is that the writer relied a touch too much on romantic assumptions of small town life and too little on the harsh realities when he suggested that "most" guys end up back on the ranch in Winifred after high school. In reality, very few people who grow up there end up back there for several reasons, but the most obvious of which being that there aren't many jobs there, and the ranches can't support several generations of families at once. I think that is probably universal amongst all MT small towns.

Both Wolf boys, along with Mike Kramer, graduated from Colton High (WA), in classes under 30 people. And while Kramer played 11 man football there, both Wolfs played 8 man.

Good history of small town guys, Ghlum included, making it work at MSU!

I've been waiting for this thread from you since I picked up the paper this morning and saw this article. What took you so long BAC? ;)

Didn't get a chance to browse the paper until lunch. Stupid work.

Maybe he will turn out to be another Les Lenniger who was an All American for the Cats and came from an 8 man school.

Doesn't really fall under "Bobcat Athletics" but anyway Chris Horn played receiver at Rocky Mountain College. He was from Caldwell, ID. I believe he played 8-man football. He is now with the KC Chiefs.

Gotta love it when the small town boys succeed.

Also, Casey Fitzsimmons---Detroit Lions. He played for Chester High School.

Chris Horn signed with the New Orleans Saints this offseason.

I hadn't seen that. Good for him. I went to school with him at Rocky--he is a great person and deserves whatever good comes to him.

Although I would've liked to see him play for someone else, good luck to him in NO.

with JT on their roster they might as well sign Fitzsimmons as TE

Yeah ... I guess my subject line should have specified that it had the best subject matter of any article every written for the Chronicle. I'm not sure how much of that is just how it appears on the website. I assume the print edition was scrubbed by an editor a little better?

i think Fitzsimmons and Friedrich the tight end for the friz from scobey played against eachother in a class c playoff game. i always thought that was kind of neat that they both ended up in the nfl. even if one is a friz.

Sorry, but probably a poor assumption. Look at the source.

In the brief trial period they had w/ the 'E' version, which is what you're reading, I saw absolutely no difference. :o

The article's writing wasn't great, which is a bit of a surprise from Tim Dumas. His articles are usually a bit more solid than that. I think it was good content and I hope these guys succeed here. They're the kind of guys we want here at Montana State: tough as hell, good athletes, good people, and good students. Dylan sounds exactly like that and I have no doubt he'll be a good one given the chance to succeed.

Thumbs up, fellas.

I do agree with your idea of small town over-romanticism, BAC. It's hard to find jobs in those areas, but if these guys are willing to go home and run the ranch, more power to them. But the jobs aren't there and it's a bit sad in a way. On a not-so-related topic, a good song that represents the shrinking of the average Montana small town is Jimmy Buffett's "Ringling, Ringling."

GO CATS!
It's always a good day to be a Bobcat fan! :) =D^ \:D/
