Definitely. On paper I would think Cats should be favored by a couple scores. I'm guessing the odds makers won't see it that way, and might even have Cats as underdogs. If that's the case, I'll be putting $$ down on that one.

Hypothetical question because I think it’s a realistic possibility. If the Cats beat New Mexico and both of the Dakotas lose their opening games, is it possible we move to number one in the nation? Or is it more likely to be the griz even though they will have not beaten an FBS team?

I don't believe the Dakotas will be penalized for losing to an FBS opponent, unless it's an absolute blowout and that's not likely to happen.

As I mentioned to AFCAT via email, my apologies for that. I hate them too and noticed it this morning but was away from my computer and hate trying work with Adsense from my phone. Google likes to occasionally do what they call “Auto optimize experiments” randomly where they turn on some different type of ad without asking for a set period and then try to show you how much better it is than without. They’ve done it before and I’ve had to turn them off. Checked the option again to never have them try those, hopefully it will stick this time.

If that does happen watch the voters. You'll see MSU will get more first place votes than they did in the preseason poll. It probably won't be enough to vault the Dakotas but the final points will tighten up. Some voters stick to their preseason order until it is no longer tenable (and some still even after its long past that point). Others make huge moves so it ends up canceling out.

Agree with this. Plus I'm sure it depends on the magnitude of the wins or losses. I'm not really worried about early season rankings but it is interesting to speculate about. If Cats are 12-0 at the end of the season we should be #2 at worst if the Dakota States play each other this year.
