Thanks for this post today. Really appreciate it.
My pleasure! I am finding these stories great to read. Somebody has put a lot of time into their creation and I hope they get some recognition.

I've enjoyed all of them but the history of who wore the number 32 in the past and the thought and research of today's number hit upon a lot of fond memories spent on the MSU campus. Thanks again.

Love this little tidbit in the story:
. The playing field ran north and south, catching the college's well-known hill (more pronounced then than now) for an uphill grade near the southern goal. The grade was steep enough that The UM Kaimin joked about the Varsity practicing near the foot of Mount Sentinel to replicate the experience.

they have done a good job on these this year! especially considering how bad it used to be (would usually make it to about #70 and stop doing it).

well done! I definitely have enjoyed reading all of em.

Totally agree. This has taken somebody a lot of work. Does anybody remember if some of the content was used in previous attempts at this? I'd be fine if they recycled parts of this every year with updates as necessary. Fun to read the historical stuff.

Here's the link to last year's 25 day count:

Here's this year's:

It looks like while some of the content is the same, it is updated. I look forward to these each day.

24 Sacks last year. That was in 13 games. I figure we'll play at least 14 games this year and average at least 2 sacks per game. My guess for this year is 29 sacks total. This is a total WAG, I don't even know how many sacks a year is normal for a good defense.

I remember Choate saying at one point last year he wanted us to be a 30 sack team.

What you might find useful is a Swagging tool...you simply add a Scientific dimension to WAG, thus becoming SWAG :)

I read this and thought we need a spreadsheet. Going back to 2006, our sack rate has been much stronger than Choate's goal of 24 for a season. 2011 was B-A-N-A-N-A-S. Our defense was getting a sack every 18.6 plays. Choate's first year was one sack every 52.5 plays. In 2018, we were better at one sack for every 39.9 plays. We're trending in the right way, but now that I have a corresponding visual, his goal of 24 seems too low.

Thanks for doing this. Love numbers and charts. 2011 was notable in that the highest sack rate paired with the least plays defended per game, which indicates that the sacks were helping to get the defense off the field on third down — which totally makes sense. We've had less sacks lately and have struggled on third down. So bring 'em on. Let the big ‘Cats eat.
