Recruiting series on Montana State late signees

Post by Colter_Nuanez » Sun Apr 07, 2019 10:30 am

Montana State signed 15 players during the late period. We admittedly got behind, but we will be doing a series catching up with all of them. Here's the first installment. Stay tuned!

Anybody else notice this quote from Dom Brown?
“I liked the coaching staff and I like where we are at right
now,” Brown said. “The position is a good position to be in. The new facilities
that are getting started and built this summer, all the players, everybody is
bought in. It’s a good place to be.”

They would have to break ground today in order to get even close to having that thing done by fall. It may not need to be complete by the time the season starts but pretty close. The team wouldn't have a locker room otherwise.

Collapsing gyms may have changed things

Maybe, maybe not. It is 2 different funding streams and you can hire different general contractors. Administratively it would be a giant pain to have them both ongoing at the same time.

Well, he isn't the first recruit that has said that about the new facilities being started soon. It's funny that recruits are more in the know about what is happening, facilities-wise, than the boosters are. I do expect the rest of us will hear something in May though.

What we have heard is MSU has raised between $10M and $11M for the expansion project. The first phase I thought was 15M to $16M. So unless we suddenly received a bunch of money how can they start any projects? I am not sure how the gym roof collapse figures in. Different pool of money controlled by different groups (all of course under Cruzado)!

I also wonder how Romney gym figures in. That is Wadeds top priority right now and I think she’ll get that done with or without the legislature. If the legislature ponies up the money for Romney, that might open up some funds For the end zone project.

This is purely speculation and A pipe dreaming fantasy on my part.

The gym roof collapse is paid for by insurance money. MSU has already released information that they are starting the process to rebuild the structure and coordinating with students on what they want for a new gym facility. They wrote that the process will go into next fall.

MSU wants Romney to be paid for by the state, since the improvements to the building will be for classroom use. The Senate hasn’t voted on the bill yet, but it was passed by the House. The bill has to pass by a super majority in the Senate and signed by the Governor for MSU to get the funding. It looks like the state funding will be a mix of cash and bonding, but won’t cover the complete cost of construction. MSU will have to look for some private donations to get the project completed.

The stadium will probably be funded completely by donations. The last I heard was that they have raised a little over 10 million dollars for the initial end zone expansion and improvements in the field house. That expansion will cost around 16 million dollars. I was told a little over a year ago, by a representative of the Alumni Foundation, that they were hoping to announce something this May. It seems that at least some of the recruits are being told that construction will start soon. I don’t know how true that is, but more than one recruit has said it. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed.

Last thing I saw was MSU getting $19 million for Romney.
