Well the WAC has a real FCS team in a few years and is trying to make sure it has a competitive way into BSC. We better not lose any of the three.Hawks86 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 8:19 pmhttps://fbschedules.com/dixie-state-byu ... schedules/Montana State

Re: Dixie State scheduled
Hopefully UM starts up a gofundme page so that they can pay Dixie State $260,000 for their match up.

The trend continues:
UM gets three home games for $260,000 ($87,000/game), MSU gets two home games for $80,000 ($40,000/game).

Interesting, I read that differently. Said MSU has a home game and will guarantee 80k for that game. Said they have another in 2023, which I’m assuming is another 80k guarantee? It didn’t state for certain.
I see SDSU has scheduled one home game with them for 200k. Griz getting 3 for 260k is a deal!

Dixie State will play a total of four games against the Montana Grizzlies. The series will open at Montana on Sept. 25, 2021 before shifting to St. George on Sept. 9, 2023.
The Trailblazers will then travel to face Montana on Sept. 5, 2026 and again on Sept. 18, 2027. DSU will receive a guarantee of $260,000 for the 2027 matchup only.

Yeah, we both read it wrong. Actually both teams have a home and home. The Griz are essentially paying $260,00 for two no-return-trip games ($130,000 each). MSU has just one no-return-trip game at $80,000. So instead of paying $47,000 per game more the Griz are paying $50,000 more. Thanks for pointing out my error.Grizaddict wrote: ↑Thu Feb 21, 2019 10:22 amInteresting, I read that differently. Said MSU has a home game and will guarantee 80k for that game. Re: Dixie State scheduled
It appears that Dixie State is setting itself up on a decent path to success. Games against Southern Utah, NAU, and Weber State are already in the hopper and now lining up games with FCS Power Montana State and apparently games against a lesser FCS team based west of Bozeman.

Coming on the heels of Friday's announcement that Dixie State Athletics is transitioning to NCAA Division I status, DSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Jason Boothe announced Tuesday the scheduling of three future football series against Big Sky Conference members Southern Utah, Weber State and Northern Arizona.
"With our move to Division I, it is critical that we play our fellow regional institutions to create the rivalries that our fans want to see," Dr. Boothe said. "It is going to be a lot of fun to compete with these fantastic programs and we are very thankful that each school has agreed to play both at their place and here in St. George."
Dixie State will play its first-ever game at the D-I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level against SUU at Eccles Coliseum in Cedar City on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020, which will mark the first time the Trailblazers and Thunderbirds will have met on the gridiron since the 2010 season (at SUU 52, DSU 0; 11/6/10). DSU will also play at SUU to open the 2022 season (9/3/22), while the third game in the series will take place at Trailblazer Stadium in 2024 (9/7/24).

Re: Dixie State scheduled
Based on the info given in that article I think it’s all open for interpretation. I read it as 3 home games for Griz, with the very last one having a 260k guarantee basically forcing Dixie st to commit to the 3 games in Missoula. So 3 games total with only one payout, that comes to 87k per game. That’s a steal for the $ made at a home game in Missoula and hundreds of thousands less than bringing on other FCS teams for non conf.iaafan wrote: ↑Thu Feb 21, 2019 11:16 amYeah, we both read it wrong. Umm, nooooo, based on the information given UM and MSU each have a home and home with Dixie. Those games cancel each other out. UM then has two home games and is paying Dixie $260,000 for the second one. That averages out to $130,000 per game. MSU has one home game and is paying $80,000 for that game.Grizaddict wrote: ↑Thu Feb 21, 2019 11:35 amBased on the info given in that article I think it’s all open for interpretation. MSU is definitely not paying Dixie $80,000 twice and then going to Dixie for free.

Re: Dixie State scheduled
I think the 2 big differences between MSU's agreement with DSU and um's agreement is as others have stated;
*we get a home game for $80k, & the griz get 2 home games for $260k. As 'iaafan' pointed out, the home & home games cancel.
*our $ is paid in 2 years, um's $ is paid 8 years out (i.e. inflation)
Personally I think DSU becoming an FCS football program is good for all western FCS teams because of the limited # of western FCS teams. I think it is inevitable that they will become a BSC team sometime in the future. Now if the BSC getting bigger is a good or bad thing is a different conversation. At some point we'll need to have 2 divisions within the conference to be able to make things work. Time will tell.
I'm a little disappointed that our opener will be at DSU in 2024. Having a home opener (especially on TH night) or at least a premier FCS team would be preferable, but that is a relatively minor issue.
WELCOME TO THE FCS (and likely the BSC in the not too distant future) DSU!
EDIT: get this....., per DSU's website https://about.dixie.edu/fast-facts/ their enrollment is 9950. Per the Montana University System website https://mus.edu/data/dashboards/headcount.asp um's enrollment for Fall 2018 was just 9565 (a 28% decline since 2010). Maybe um guaranteed the $260k payment in 2027 thinking that by then they'd fall to a DII, NAIA, Jr. college, or Beauty/Barista School status and would be able to get out of the contract.
GO CATS!

Can't we all agree the article was written VERY POORLY. Would receive a poor grade in any journalism class. Perhaps they could rewrite and try again.

Because it doesn't include a bunch of guesses on how the guarantees are actually payed out? The numbers could be 100% accurate and don't need further explanation.

However it is sliced the Griz get 3 home games for 260k total. That’s 87k per game. That’s cheap as hell in the world of bringing in non Conf games. SDSU paying 200k for one game. I’ll take 260k for 3 all day long.
