Good defense does, but bad defense doesn’t. You must be talking about bad defense.

Not sure why you'd say that after Maine's defense held Weber to 0 rush yards, forced 4 turnovers, and beat them on the road.

Hmm.. I would start with O before defense, the rules are set up that way.
Did anybody watch the game tonight?

You guys are missing the point. If you don’t score you don’t win chippers. Total offense tonight was 281 to 271 even matched.
If your left, you aren’t right.

Re: Does defense really win chippers?
Defense can get you 75% there in most cases but still need an effective offense either generating some explosive plays ie Maine tonight or launch an efficient offensive attack- like Eastern Washington or North Dakota State.
One thing about these playoffs is if there are flaws with your team, they will be exposed.
Your quarterback better be a good decision maker.

Your QB better be good and your number 1 recruit every year.

Still start with O first every time.

Re: Does defense really win chippers?
Exactly. Great defense and a serviceable to good offense can go a long way.

Doubt it. You need a balance don’t get me wrong, but the question is, where to you put your eggs, defense or offense? For me, you start on O maybe it’s just me I don’t know.

Re: Does defense really win chippers?
Both teams had elite defenses. A big difference between them and the Bobcats is that all the secondary and linebackers triggered like Mac Bignell. The CB play was outstanding. Maine just had a better QB and offense. Weber had the best WR's, but they were neutralized by bad throws and good DB's. Weber's CB did gamble on an interception and got burnt for 6.94VegasCat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 10:52 pmWeebs couldn’t move! Black hole defense shut down everything.

So do the 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 NDSU Bison. Other than one year the defense has been rated higher than the offense and that one year both ranked no.1.

Re: Does defense really win chippers?
I agree you need balance. I don't think of it as putting your eggs in the defensive basket or offensive basket. I think you have to put your eggs in the trenches, starting with D line. Then O line.Hi-Line Bobcat wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 12:50 amDoubt it. You need a balance don’t get me wrong, but the question is, where to you put your eggs, defense or offense? The yardage was evenly matched. You failed to mention the turnovers though.Hi-Line Bobcat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 10:54 pmYou guys are missing the point. If you don’t score you don’t win chippers. Total offense tonight was 281 to 271 even matched.

Re: Does defense really win chippers?
Maine blew up the line of scrimmage all night. Weber could not get the running or passing game going. You can have All American WR, RB, and QB, but if the defense is constantly in the backfield the O is not moving the chains.

Re: Does defense really win chippers?
Defense wins with at least an average to good offense. Weber had a really bad match up, in that Maine has a great run defense and Weber can't throw it.
Weber did not have a good offense this year, and they didn't score from defense or special teams like they did during the year.
The yardage was only even because Weber got a bunch of yards at the end.
Maine was better.

Weber was dead last in offense in the league.JimboCat wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 9:55 amDefense wins with at least an average to good offense. Weber had a really bad match up, in that Maine has a great run defense and Weber can't throw it.

Re: Does defense really win chippers?
You need balance on both sides and Weber was missing that last night. I will say if I had to choose one or the other to focus on to win a championship, I would choose defense.
