LB Play II

Post by gtapp » Thu Oct 18, 2018 7:39 pm

I guess I didn't pay much attention last week because I did not notice who was in at LB. I saw Collins got a lot of snaps and seem to have a good game. Who else played and played well? Is Chapman back? Did the move Konkol to LB? Kanow? Is Hardy getting any reps?

I didn’t see Chapman playing linebacker, but he may have. He was definitely flying around on kick cover teams like his old self. Yes, Konkol was playing linebacker.

Balue did take some snaps at LB last week, they were limited but he played during the game. He was also on kick off. The main guys were Jobman, Collins, Hadley, and Cozzie. Tad was also in the rotation sparingly. I really like Tad, he moves good and likes to smack.

In case you missed the other discussion about LB Collins was game Defensive MVP with 10 total,7 solo tackles in first game he wasn't restricted to 10-20 plays.

There was very little good and absolutely nothing MVP about the LB play on the first two series alone vs spuds. Cut blocked, pancaked, and slow. Just watch it. No need to celebrated mediocrity. Need Hill back.

I am not a huge fan of tall rangey that can’t RUN. We have a plodder or two. If they could all run I’d be happy. Is Kanow with one good wheel that much better than Gilman or Cozzie? I have a hard time believing that!

Not sure about Gilman, but walker hasn’t been very good.

We get it, you're short squatty and slow and have a vendetta against anyone tall and rangy. Give it a rest and don't tell us that two less than stellar plays in a game eliminates a player from having a great game at any position.

  it’s not about me.
There was way more than 2 plays that were awful. It’s more of them than not. Just like today. It’s the distortion of reality and giving the mvp to someone because it was their turn. That’s a problem.

Collins is the most overrated LB in the Big Sky. They should start keeping track of missed tackles...he would lead the league. Doesn't wrap-up, slow, can't cover a back out of backfield and waits for the runner which results in 5 yards run every time. Only reason he plays is because of his last name.

"Waits for the runner?" Didn't he have a couple of TFLs today?

I prefer short and lightning-quick at LB myself but I think you guys are talking way too much crap about a kid who plays his butt off and doesn't get paid.

He’s getting paid(scholly). Effort hasn’t ever been questioned. Really not bashing just one player. There’s several not getting it done.

Too many D-ends at LB?? Speed trumps size. If you’re not fast enough forward/back and laterally to be in the right position, your size is irrelevant. That’s where most of the bad arm tackling or no tackling comes from.

The D-line is doing almost all the work on the front seven. Most tackles by LB’s are 5-8 yd gains or gifts from D-line havoc.

Count me in too, but adding one more quality which is an "intuitive sense" of the play like Bignell had (and that I think TA has as well).

Hey Bobcat99 looks like Grant Collins had another horrible game against ISU. I will take a slow LB playing with one arm and no quit on my team any day.

Grant is a starter play at 90% of FCS programs & on the 2 deep on 40-50% of FBS programs. Not sure who peed in Tallandrangys Cheerios, but MSU is getting a great talent for the cost of an in state scholarship. I can pretty much guarantee you that Grants shoulder alone is going to cost him double the $35k in scholarship he’s getting.

Proud to have that dude on my team.

Collins did play better against ISU, but was really bad against Weber the week prior. He had nowhere to go but up. Encouraging to see he's improving, but his play has not been good this year.

We need Hill back.

Where is Hadley?

Hadley is out indefinitely. So is Kanow.

Jobman is making strides and Choate is hopeful Hardy will be up to speed here down the stretch.
