Post by iaafan » Mon Aug 20, 2018 3:15 pm

But it won’t be out until next week. Any guesses?

My guess:
QB - Andersen
RB - Ifanse
OL - Neale, Tuiasopopo, Brott, Kidd, Redd
TE - Sullivan
WR - Kassis, Jonsen, Patterson

DL - Fa’anono, Wright, Yates, Sterk
LB - Chapman, Gilman, Collins
DB - Thomas, Konkol, Alleyne, Washington

Solid groups, what’s just as impressive is the list of backups: Benson, Cole, Henderson, Ferriter, Marks, Kanow, Jobman, Sparaco, Filer, Gibson twins, Williams, Cozzie, Bauman, Tucker, Natee, Sessions, Wood, D’Agostino, McCucheon, Barkley, Steel, Brott, Metcalf, and I’m probably forgetting a few. If the OL could play for both teams you’d have a helluva 1s vs 2s.

A lot of tough, tough decisions had to be made, but most of the positions are situational so most of the 2s are gonna get ample playing time.

I think RB will be 1A and 1B, and I think that will be Tucker and Ifanse. But I don't think it will stay that way. Logan Jones was the starter last year and he didn't many carries.

I don't know how I feel about Jonsen starting at WR, I think he will play there but I don't think he will start. That's a bad position to have a lingering foot injury. As Choate likes to say I think they will manage him, meaning they will play him as much as they think his foot can handle. If it flares up at all, he's out.

LB is the same as RB, I'm not sure it matter who starts because they will rotate a lot and like last year, the lineup might even change depending what team we're playing. Choate's main goal for Collins is that he finishes the season healthy, so I think he will be in and out as well.

I think you're right at DB, I think Cole is the first man off the bench and a nickel specialist.

Kassis the only lock at WR. There’s a bunch of good WRs. I thought Duru and Metcalf looked good. Add Duru to list above. Watching the WRs and CBs go at it in the scrimmage was good.

From Rachac tweet:

Choate: “Now we’re tightening things up, we’re going to start game-planning in all three phases, we’ve honed down the depth chart, guys are going to be getting more reps (and) it should be more polished.”

Why would Alleyne be backing up Konkol when he’s not a SS? He’s a FS.

QB: Andersen, Rovig
RB: Ifanse, OR Tucker, OR Sumner
FB: Fitzpatrick
TE: Sullivan, Amos, Davis
LT: Brott, Hatten
LG: Tuisapopo, Sessions
C: Neale, Redd
RG: Kidd, Sessions
RT: Wood, Hatten (If Wood is injured badly, swap Kidd to RT, Neale to G, Redd to C)
WR: Kassis, D’Agastino
WR: Patterson, Steele
WR: Jonsen, Campbell

DE: Fa’anono, Marks
DT: Wright, Benson
DT: Yates, Williams
Buck: Sterk, Sparaco
OLB: Kanow, Gilman (Gilman starts if Kanow is still hurt)
MLB: Jobman, Collins, Cozzie
OLB: Chapman OR Hadley
CB: Tyrel Thomas, Jalen Cole
SS: Konkol, Gorges
FS: Alleyne, Henderson
CB: Filer, Washington
NB: Jalen Cole, pick a Gibson

Not very positive on WR. They’re going to substitute a lot there anyways. LB is the same way. Jalen Cole might not “start” but he’s our NB which we’ll see a lot.

All I need to know is that we have a depth chart so deep it takes a submarine to document it.

Looks right, I might flip D'Agastino in front of Jonsen depending on the package/game and his health. So we are possibly starting someone new at all 4 LB positions (calling Buck an LB)? Should we be concerned? I have heard positive reports on all of them and Sterk should be a stud but we had some highly touted out of state LB recruits in the past few years but most of the two-deep at LB is made up of Montana boys!

I am very interested to see how Kanow does with an increased work load. The kid has a nose for the ball and loves contact.
If he has increased strength and has put on a little more weight than the roster says, look out.

I hear ya, I remember this article from the spring from Skyline, seems like Choate always gushed about Kanow. I think this LB corps has a lot of potential, just a lot of unkowns with such littler gameday experience.

It sounds like they are just taking it slow with him. Choate has mentioned he wants to make sure he gets a full season in. He will play plenty, they are just going to keep a close eye on him.

I do not think we will see Kanow for a while because of his knee injury. However, I do think we will be fine a LB. Yes, we are young, but a ton of talent. Add in Sterk and Sparaco plus a bigger and healthy Fa'anono and we are in really good shape.

Because of Kanow being injured, would not be surprised if Konkol went back down to Will. Tadan Gilman has been impressive but experience is so crucial.

SOB, I knew Kanow missed the scrimmage because of a knee, but was not sure how severe it was. Konkol-LB, Alleyne and Henderson at Safety is not a bad contingency plan though.
