Re: Saturday scrimmage reports
I won't rehash the points I've already made in other posts, but I had a few other takeaways.
We have a good lineup of receivers and several will be able to be successful in this system, but I think the guys that see the field the most are the best blockers. We'll run Jonsen in several locations for most of the big play stuff, so the other guys really need to be steady and reliable. I don't have any concerns for this group.
On D, I didn't see much of Sterk. Is this because he's such a clear #1 that he did play much (ala Konkol)? Is he dinged a little bit? It was great see Fa'a dominate like he did, but I came in thinking that was going to be Sterk.
Speaking of Fa'a, he's a mean nasty SOB (and I mean that in the most respectful way). Man if that's what we get this year out if that kid, we are in fantastic shape at strong end.
Williams is everything you heard. I can't believe he fell to us from FBS. He doesn't look like Hurcules from Wazzu, but he does all the same things. Lots and lots of PT from him this year.
Not sure if Benson getting dinged early made a difference, but he didn't do as much as I expected. Then again, he was camouflaged in the 31 jersey, so maybe did some good stuff early before I realized who he was.
As has been reported, the back 4 on D are good and deep. I thought Borges had a breakout day. He clearly looked like the next guy up at safety after Konkol, Hendersen, and Alleyne. IMO, May and Anderson are battling each other for the #5 slot and it's hard to tell who's ahead. At corner, we can interchange about 5 guys and not see a drop off.
And now the bad news. I think are really thin at LB. Other than I think Ty can take any LB we got and make them them play pretty good inside the system, I do think we have a problem there. Maybe VIM jumps in and makes me feel better, but I'm concerned.

Re: Saturday scrimmage reports
The 15 yard crossing route to Kassis was an overthrow by at least 5 yards, and Kassis was wide open, and Andersen had a great pocket. Was just a bad pass, no excuses. It was a concerning pass, imo.
Rovig was consistently late on his passes. Bauman has a gun, but he’s only 18. I really wasn’t impressed by the passing of any QB’s other than Bauman.

For all the former all conference late night fantasy football league arm chair offensive coordinators, Troy Andersen was 10-16 passing

Re: Saturday scrimmage reports
This. He made a couple mistakes but as Choate mentioned - he was juiced up big time and it's hard to get into the flow of the game with the stupid (But necessary) red jersey on. You show me any QB in the country that didn't throw a couple ducks yesterday, or whenever their scrimmage was.
I have no doubt our QB play is going to be significantly better than last year and that we are going to win more games because of it.
And our defense. Wow. I had almost forgotten about Luke May. When you look at how talented some of our players are that are fighting and clawing just to get into the rotation... this defense could be something special. Agree on the ONLY concern I see right now is LB depth. Hoping for minimal injuries there or else the staff might need to get creative with tweener DE, or back end guys where we seem to be loaded.
Great time to be a BOBCAT!

Re: Saturday scrimmage reports
I'll wait for the official prediction thread but as of now I'm feeling a 33 to 17 ish type of game for our opener. I think we'll get a score from the defense, and one off a KR or PR for TD. Then we'll score TDs in two of the quarters and FGs in the other two. No idea on how the Griz will do against them. I'm really curious to see what's up with the Griz O line.Rich K wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 11:21 amQuestion: Will the Bobcats beat the Leathernecks by more than the Leathernecks beat the Griz?Darth Yoda wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 11:10 amPerhaps you'll agree to never post here ever again if the Cats win?

Hopefully nothing serious, can't wait to see him roll a DT in a game. The Big Meowski wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 11:27 amPBig Bacon was on an exercise bike during the scrimmage.

Hope he just needs to lose about 10 pounds. Looked a bit sluggish in spring ball. And maybe Choate wanted to see the younger freshman play.FTG247365 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 11:37 amHopefully nothing serious, can't wait to see him roll a DT in a game. The Big Meowski wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 11:27 amPBig Bacon was on an exercise bike during the scrimmage.

Offense will be very vanilla. Not show too much and give QB a chance to settle into the speed of the game. Shirt routes and options. Run heavy but a few half back passes and a long bomb by TA.catatac wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 11:34 amI'll wait for the official prediction thread but as of now I'm feeling a 33 to 17 ish type of game for our opener. Re: Saturday scrimmage reports
One of the biggest question marks the Leathernecks are facing this season is their offensive line. One returning starter and apparently they also lost a lot of last year's back ups. I am predicting that we'll blow up the line of scrimmage and we'll have players in their backfield before the quarterback collects the snap. Maybe they'll do what the Griz are rumored to be planning and that is to "get the ball out quick to playmakers" which is typically a tactic for a team that is trying not to get beaten too badly.Montanabob wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 11:47 amOffense will be very vanilla. Re: Saturday scrimmage reports
Took a peek at egriz (always a mistake if you are looking for logical football discussions). griz fans are definitely psyched out by the Cats this year. Aside from stomping them again, have a good feeling about the rest of the schedule.
Never argue with an idiot. They bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

9.6 YPC, and 6.0 YPA with an INT is not a good stat line. And he missed easy passes. Can’t just go by the box score.

I've "heard" some great news about several aspects of this year's football team and program. Make certain you're listening to announcements during the Western Illinois game. Unbelievable to me and I thought I wouldn't live to see it all happen...no wonder we have the type of kids commiting to MSU football we have now...

Did Hairy Back Guy re-enroll at MSU to complete his degree? Finally get rid of the "Rock this House" chant? New paint on the east side bleachers? The possibilities are endless...Cat Grad wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 1:21 pmI've "heard" some great news about several aspects of this year's football team and program. What are you talking about?
