Nice little preview podcast here on fall camp. Things I picked up:
- Choate's excited about QB competition and the fact Bob Cole gets to be the guy...find the guy
- Logan Jones has had a great summer and is poised for a great final season
- Isaiah Ifanse will be thrown into the mix at RB right away. Overall, good problem to have a lot of different backs with different skill sets.
- WR depth is wide-open in terms of competition
- Connor Sullivan has matured the most since Choate came on board, per Choate. Turned into a great all-around student-athlete and has taken on a leadership role along with fellow senior TE's Wilson Brott and Curtis Amos. Choate said he really wants TE's to be involved this year in the passing game.
- Choate very high on the offensive line and is excited to see who gets the 5th spot. Zach Redd obviously was that 5th guy this spring but Choate mentioned Connor Wood and Sean Hatten along with Jake Sessions and Colin Hammock.
- Kevin Kassis is one of the best leaders on the team as a junior
- Johnny D. is ready to compete again (happy for him)
- Young interior defensive lineman like Chase Benson, Kyle Rygg, Travis Yates, James Williams, and Seer Deines will receive a heavy workload during fall camp and guys like Zach Wright and Tucker Yates will be held back a little (because they're already the #1s)
- Tyrone Fa'anono and Derek Marks had phenomenal springs/summers. First time Fa'anono has been fully healthy in three years per Choate.
- Choate believes we will be "different" on the edges this year. Longer, more depth, more options, more looks.
- Bryce Sterk has asserted himself as the buck end and Sparaco and Finch will be in the mix
- Boasted about the linebacker depth and how much it is going to improve MSU's special teams
- The lightbulb turned on for Keaton Anderson at the end of spring, per Choate. Keaton will be in the mix for the two deep and should star on special teams.
- Improved depth at corner will allow MSU to play more man and get after the QB, per Choate
- Konkol will play safety and should start along Jojo Henderson but Allyene and Anderson will be in the mix for starting honors. Per Choate, Konkol was arguably one of the best defensive players for MSU at the end of last year. Bragged about Konkol's football intelligence and passion for the game.
- Jalen Cole will likely be MSU's starting nickel (very important in the Big Sky)
- Thomas will be one of the starters on the outside while Filer and Washington along with the Gibson twins will compete for the other spot. When in base defense, Cole/Thomas are the starters
- Choate wants Tristan Bailey to be that 80% guy from 40 yards and in (something MSU has not had in a while)
However, sometimes you can garner information from Choate based off the things he doesn't say.
- Josh Hill at linebacker (hearing Josh may have elected to have offseason surgery of some kind which will force him to miss his junior season)
- Donny Long as a competitor along the offensive line (he stated Donny would be in the mix in the past)
- No talk of Malik Putney at safety
Overall, this is the most excited I've been for a fall camp in the Choate era. So much competition across the board!

Re: Fall Camp 2018
I mentioned this in another thread, but Choate and Jay talking about this team together makes it impossible not to be pumped and optimistic about this season. Choate is so well spoken and enthusiastic about everything. I love listening to him. These young men that have the opportunity to play for him are damn lucky. Let's get this show in the road!

Re: Fall Camp 2018
Does anyone still remember kids from past recruiting classes that never made it to fall camp? The answer is no. You move on with the ones you got.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Thu Aug 02, 2018 9:52 amI mentioned this in another thread, but Choate and Jay talking about this team together makes it impossible not to be pumped and optimistic about this season. My favorite quote from the preview podcast from Choate was in regards to what he tells incoming players: "Remember...my job is to recruit guys to replace you."

Yeah that one sticks out for me too. I love that he makes sure every guy knows coming in he is always going to have someone trying to take his job. I liked his confidence that even a team like Eastern isn't going to wear down our front 7 any longer because the depth is finally there.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 02, 2018 9:54 amDoes anyone still remember kids from past recruiting classes that never made it to fall camp? Did Hill already redshirt? If so that really sucks.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 03, 2018 10:55 am- Josh Hill at linebacker (hearing Josh may have elected to have offseason surgery of some kind which will force him to miss his junior season)

Re: Fall Camp 2018
Yes he redshirted. What would suck is if we didn't have Grant Collins back (but we do). Hope Josh gets healthy and has an awesome senior year.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Fri Aug 03, 2018 11:00 amDid Hill already redshirt? Re: Fall Camp 2018
Collins is BACK back? I thought he was expected mid-season? Hope they aren't rushing him. Those injuries can be reaggravated so easily. I was surprised Balue was back full speed too.
