With all of the commotion at QB this off-season, it makes me wonder what is allowed during summer football. My understanding is that coaches can't direct but can they watch? If they can't watch live can they watch video? Can they watch live or on video and then talk to individual players one on one? I guess what I'm wanting to know is, will the coaches in any way be able to use these workouts to evaluate talent? Whether it's at QB or any other position.
For example it appears that Choate knew that Jonsen was finally 100% able to go. What else do they know? These may be stupid questions but I'm hoping I'm not the only one who doesn't know. I've been curious for a long time and the QB situation finally prompted me to ask.

I don't believe they do or can use video, but I'm not certain of that. I know they get feedback from some of the leaders on the team though. Choate knew Jonsen was 100% to practice because he either got a thumbs up from the doctor or Jonsen himself.

That's interesting. I thought he meant videotaping player run practices though. I'm not sure if MSU does that or not.

This article was updated in 2016; do you have current literature? I always question dated research articles, especially when it has to do with the rules of the NCAA. Examples of football rule revisions would be blocking below the waist, transfer modifications and concussion protocol.Grizaddict wrote: ↑Sat Jul 14, 2018 10:41 amCoaches get 8 hours per week along with some film study

Edit* If memory serves me correctly, those eight hours of coaching contact is limited to strength and conditioning coaches. We trust the athletic departments administrators to stay current with any and all changes within the governing body of the NCAA.

From the story, "Through most of June, CU has had two 30-minute sessions of film review per week, leaving seven hours for strength and conditioning. As training camp nears, MacIntyre said the Buffs will use the entire two hours to get a head start on installing schemes for training camp."Grizaddict wrote: ↑Sat Jul 14, 2018 10:41 amCoaches get 8 hours per week along with some film study

This story is not as clear as I would like but it appears to me that they can have two hours of general coaching time with the players each week, the other 6 hours is restricted to strength and conditioning. CU is using an hour of that in June for film study but later will use the two hours, on field, to get ready for fall camp.
If this is correct and the Freshman are here this will give the coaching staff a decent look at our QB situation before fall camp starts. Not like having two hours a day but a lot better than nothing.
One thing the story doesn't touch on is if coaches can watch practices as long as they don't coach. Anybody know the answer to that?

It would be best if they started the player run practices at 4:30 am. I think they start at 6am though.
