Joe is my #1 RB and OLB in the state.
So, did we recruit him to play qb?

“162.3 yards per carry.”

That seems high.

He left the Badlands game with an injury. Knee was wrapped in ice. Hope it isn’t serious. There’s a photo on Twitter of all the MSU players posing with the trophy and Olson is squatting down with nothing on either knee,

I can’t believe how badly they misspelled Justus Perkins name on the online roster. They have him as Justis Perlans.

The same thing could have happened at a MSU practice, but at the same time you have to wonder why any player would play in these exhibitions. There just doesn’t seem to be any upside.

I wouldn’t think he’d be able to crouch down like that if was seriously injured.

Or perhaps his knee is permanently locked in that position.

Are there different severities of a hyperextension?

Biggest thing you worry about with a hyperextension injury is damage to the PCL. However, the PCL has much better capacity to heal on its own non-operatively, as it is about 3x as thick as the ACL and has really good blood supply. You always have the risk of damage to a meniscus as well. Long-term, without knowing any specifics, I would say his prognosis for full recovery is excellent, and odds are pretty good he won't have to have surgery. Probably will need to wear a brace this year, but plan was probably going to be to redshirt him anyways, so this gives him a chance to fully recover and work on rebuilding strength in the hip/leg muscles that will help stabilize his knee in the long run.

Any time you have a kid going to see the doc for a knee injury, I wait nervously until the news comes out. So many variables and possibilities, it's really hard to know what to expect. And I'm going off very little information, so I would take that with a grain of salt. Hoping the best for Joe, I'm excited to see him suit up for the Cats!

As long as there weren't any ligament or cartilage tears, Joe just needs to rest the knee for about a month. The fact he could bend down like that in the trophy picture is a very good sign by the way. He should be fine for fall camp.

The 'good news" is that he may be a redshirt.
