Chris Murray - Vince Young
Pretty similar stats and styles after first two years in college. Keep in mind Young got to red-shirt and Murray didn’t.
Murray - 167-338-17, 2,375 yards, 21 tds, 118.8; 329 carries, 1,984 yards, 22 tds.
Young - 232-393-18, 2,994 yards, 18 tds, 128.9; 302 carries, 2,077 yards, 25 tds.
Young made a huge jump passing going into junior year. Is Murray primed to do the same?

Re: Chris Murray - Vince Young
Young was a much better passer even before his junior year than Murray is now. I like where your heads at, but one thing you left out of your stats in completion %. Murray is sitting at 49.41%, those numbers you provided for Young are 59.03%. Rushing the ball they are certainly similar, but Murray has to take a step to even get to the sophomore version of Young's passing game.iaafan wrote:Pretty similar stats and styles after first two years in college. I really hope he can, because we don't need a lot from him, but we do need him to be more consistent, and bring his completion % up into at least the mid 50s.

Re: Chris Murray - Vince Young
If Murray continues his improvement from his SO year to his JR year like he did from his FR year to his SO year....that will be enough for the offense to do their part. A mostly returning OL with depth behind them along with a new Pass Game Coordinator in Bob Cole, is a big step in making that happen.CelticCat wrote:Young was a much better passer even before his junior year than Murray is now. Remember we haven't seen what Travis Jonsen (a 4 star recruit out of CA that competed for the starting job at Oregon as a Freshman), can do in a Bobcat uniform yet either.

Re: Chris Murray - Vince Young
My point is that they’re similar (both great runners, but lacking passers their first two years) and that Young made a huge jump passing. Young’s rating went up 35 points to over 160. If Murray can make a similar jump and up his just 25 points from 122 last year to 147, that will be huge for this team.

So true! All we need from Murray is a little "pitch and catch" that works 2 out of 3 times... is that possible?CelticCat wrote:Young was a much better passer even before his junior year than Murray is now. Re: Chris Murray - Vince Young
2/3 would be a quantum leap! If he hit that completion %, he'd have a legitimate shot at the Walter Payton award and this team would be poised for a deep playoff run. At this point, I'd be thrilled with averaging 3/5, and happy with 4/7... IIRC, Travis Lulay was right around that 57% mark for his career, and he'll forever be one of the all time greats in MSU history...catsrback76 wrote:So true! I don’t know if he’s primed to do the same, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Cole knows how to get the most out of QBs.iaafan wrote:Pretty similar stats and styles after first two years in college. Keep in mind Young got to red-shirt and Murray didn’t.
