I see your logic but Tyrone and Derek have been about equal against the run (at least on the film I've watched) and Derek is a better pass rusher. Still I look at them as co-starters since they play about the same # of snaps each game.
Fair enough. Marks may have an overall higher upside, but Ty has put the work in and I think he will be the guy who starts, but as we know with TG who starts doesn't really mean anything.
I guess thats my argument. It isn't like Derek hasn't put in the work either. They both have graded out really well and I'm a fan of both. I'm glad we have both of them, with Marcus Ferriter as another option, at strong-side end.
Yet another good problem to have on his defense!

Yeah I know! Like I said, look at what we were dealing with two years ago!

Vim03 - We've heard an awful lot about our front 7 and how good they will be. Also heard some about the safeties and looking good there. What is your thought on the CB position? Strength or liability? Good quality depth or no?
Great time to be a BOBCAT!

Strength! Thomas, Cole, and Washington are rock solid then we get three new arrivals in JUCO CB Greg Filer and true freshman Ty'Rese and Ty'Rhae Gibson. As of right now, if I had to find a weakness on the defense, it would be safety and our depth at the position.

Might not be a bad idea to see if any of our linebackers could be good candidates to move to safety for depth. Seems like we are really stacked there.

So if he ends up starting and I am not saying that he will, how will that affect the rest of the defensive front. Do you think it possible that Sterk is move to the strong side? I also wonder if Marks gets moved inside. I saw him the other day and he is a very big man. I don't know but he seems like he could play at DT. We have a lot of playmakers on the DL which is great.

I doubt they move Sterk. MSU needs at least two guys in that spot.
The defense is still a work in progress and has further to go than most seem to realize.
MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Maybe Hanser moves back to linebacker. He was pretty solid there last spring.

But isn't it more a case of coaches trying to figure out how to get the best talent on the field rather that trying to find serviceable players at certain positions? It seems like that's where we're usually at. I get the impression from Colter. VIM, and others that we're talented and deep pretty much across the board.

Couldn't you say that depending upon the type of offense we are going against, whether a Cal Poly or an EWU, that we have bodies that will fit those vastly different offenses?
I wouldn't consider that we have a one dimensional defense.

I'm not sure that is accurate. Though true there will be specific tweaks to adjust to an offensive tendency, our defence essentially doesn't change. What does change is how pressure is brought and maybe that was your point, but the structure of our D is not changed.

While checking Mr. Sparaco's twitter for news, I noticed two things. He sure appears to be a Bobcat, and he retweeted this great tweet!

Alleyne, Barkley, Beltran and Price aren’t listed either. The roster probably hasn’t been updated for awhile.

Roster has yet to be updated for a handful of new guys.
