I really hope he goes out of state, cause he ain't comin here!

are you saying that just cuz he lives near Missoula... or does he have some big connections to the griz?

maybe he wants to go into engineering? (no idea, just being hopeful)

Tied into the Tripp family. Moms are sisters.

Deep class next year. Will be multiple players to target. Carson will still get heavily recruited by the Bobcats. But he would fill a major depth issue currently on the Griz roster at QB in terms of young prospects. Nothing against Garrett Graves but I don't see him at QB in a few years. I also don't think Kris Brown has near the talent Carson has. He should be the #1 recruit on both Cat/Griz boards.

#14--UM Western
#27--MT Tech
#40--MT Tech

And did I see that Counts committed somewhere? Maybe I dreamt that one.

The Final Top 50 will be unveiled in five parts from January 7th-11th. Monday, the 7th will be #50-41, the next day will be the next 10 and that process will continue until that Friday. I'm currently writing quick notes on each prospect. This has been the hardest class to rank top to bottom just because the talent disparity is not very clear. As usual, this list is simply for my enjoyment and to inform others of what I think. Nothing more, nothing less. If a kid doesn't make the list, is ranked too high, or ranked too low, please keep the comments as positive as possible. I have had to improve on this myself over the years as they are just kids and I'm a moron behind a keyboard. Anyway, will be interesting to see where some of these kids go.

Also, there are several kids not even in my Top 50 who have received a good amount of recruitment from the Cats and the Griz. Those names will show up either in a week (the 19th) or on National Signing Day on February 6, 2019.

So obviously I had Alaric fairly high in my preseason poll. His recruitment never really took off with UM or MSU despite his obvious phyisical traits on the DL. However, glad he gets to go to a great NAIA program to continue his education and football career. Chuck also brings back Top 20 player Carson Shuman from last year's class to join the MT Tech crew. Carson was a PWO at Washington State last year but will probably get way more playing time early at Tech.

6'6", 220 lbs. and a good athlete with plenty of room to add weight. Future TE or DE. One of the true sleepers in this class at the Class B level.

I'm of the believe Landers Smith has Mac Bignell type ability. And now MT Tech gets that potential talent. Chuck is cleaning up the players on my list rather quickly the past two weeks.

Are these kids predisposed to the Griz, or is MSU just whiffing on their recruitment?

There’s always lots of different reasons kids choose programs. Facilities, educational opportunities, coaching staffs, friends on teams, etc....so who knows. I saw Owens had same offer from Cats and a Griz and both were after him pretty hard. Simpson is a legacy Cat but said he felt the Griz were after him harder and likes how he would be utilized there.

If I had to put my "fan" hat on for a second, going into the year I felt Bozeman had four kids with the potential to play FCS football. I had them ranked in this order: Lonergan, Olson, Simpson, and Brown. MSU got the two kids I selfishly wanted out of that group.

As for Billings West, MSU had opportunities to lock in Trevin Gradney and Jesse Owens and missed on both. Those are clear wins for the Griz.

As it stands right now, the Montana kids committed are Lonergan, Olson, Johnson, Sampson, Trafton, and Bullock. That is a great group of four with Trafton and Bullock being good developmental players. Those first four are in the conversation of being the best in the state. It's a fairly even Montana class this year overall. You could make a case for multiple kids being the best in the state. Stay tuned for my final ranking from Jan. 7-11!
