If you’re into star ratings, then @MSUBobcatsFB is gonna impress U w/its ‘18 class. 1 4-Star, 11 3-Star, and 3 2-Star. Total: 43 Stars. @CoachChoate_MSU had 32 and 30 in previous 2 classes. No class prior had >20. 105 Stars the past 3 years is 57 more than any previous 3-yr spanwbtfg wrote:I just did some quick math, and it looks like this class is right around 30 stars according to the different recruiting sites, and that doesn't even include guys like Askelson and Snell.
I imagine that's a first for MSU
2018 with 43 is most ever. Then 2017-32 and 2016-30. All Choate classes. The 105 might be more than all previous years combined.
MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Now I am fully aware that these ratings don’t mean everything. But, they are a way to measure a class on paper before they step foot on to a college football field. Anyway you slice it, this is impressive. The level of recruits that Choate has brought in in three years is amazing.TomCat88 wrote:If you’re into star ratings, then @MSUBobcatsFB is gonna impress U w/its ‘18 class. 1 4-Star, 11 3-Star, and 3 2-Star. Vims spot on here. Star rankings are extremely subjective, mostly relying on offers or attending camps, which are almost always located on the coasts, which therefore excludes those who don’t have the time or money to attend. Just too many kids in the nation to accurately give them all stars.VimSince03 wrote:Star ratings are so subjective though and those sites really just base it off of offers and interest. For example, Donny Long had zero stars all year and still had zero heading into his January visit with MSU. He gets an offer and signs with MSU...next thing you know he has a 2-star rating from 247Sports. Then he gets that full-ride offer from Arizona State and he suddenly jumps to 3-stars. It is all very subjective. And maybe I'm biased but this is how I would rank our WR commits:wbtfg wrote:I just did some quick math, and it looks like this class is right around 30 stars according to the different recruiting sites, and that doesn't even include guys like Askelson and Snell.

1) Koby Duru (2-star)
2) Logan Kleinhans (partial)
3) Mark Estes (partial)
4) Mekhi Metcalf (3-star)

Here's my bigger question. Choate knows we are FCS right? We have had three huge classes as far as recruits.........where are we going to put all of them lol

Gonna be a lot of roster competition. If a player isn't good enough, they'll be gone.catgrad05 wrote:Catsrgrood wrote:Now I am fully aware that these ratings don’t mean everything. Of course you can't but you have to be aware of how they hand them out. I just wanted to point out that Donny Long didn't earn star ratings because of his play on the field (which he should have) but instead on the level of offer he was receiving. That doesn't make sense.Hawks86 wrote:You also can't completely dismiss them either.HowardRoss280 wrote:

yeah... I think most people would agree that a star rating doesn't mean jack squat... we have seen plenty of Chad Newell/Caleb Schreibeis type players come in over the years and completely outplay the "big star recruits"............. with that being said, its still cool to see this many 3 star recruits in one class!

Outside of major, national recruits, they're fairly meaningless.
Recruiting stars, is about money. Big schools = big subscribers = offer list star rankings. Which by and large, work pretty well. But at the smaller level, as in the majority of 3* athletes and under, fairly meaningless.

Absolutely 100% agree. But that is all we have to go on today. No star rating or ranking is 100% accurate for future success.VimSince03 wrote:Of course you can't but you have to be aware of how they hand them out. Re: The Official 2018 Signing Day Thread
I was trying to take Isaiah Ifanse's film with a grain of salt as the offense looked a little gimmicky and was obviously VERY run heavy. But the more I watch the more I like. This kid is a serious threat! He see's the hole instantly and hits the hole as quick as anyone I've seen. He has a unique skill of hitting the hole incredibly fast but not hastily, he still allows the blocks to set-up and hole to emerge. And once he hits that hole he makes one or two guys miss and is GONE! Almost 2500 yards and 44 td's in 13 games!? While playing at a high level of football in Washington, yes please!!!!!!!
