Hawaii is tough to go to.

Awful schedule. Far from home. Beautiful location, but the island life isn't for everybody.

Check out @booneabb7’s Tweet:

New qb offer. Not sure if I posted thr tweet correctly.
3 star QB from Utah. Also has an offer from Hawaii, and getting interest from Utah, but no offer yet that I can find.
Actually pretty interesting that he posted the offer as he could have already committed to Hawaii this morning but hasn't... \:D/ \:D/ \:D/
And Hawaii got a guy out of Texas already signed NLI

Maybe he and Wissler can be a package deal. It would be great to get both of them on campus for official visits together.

Wissler has a post saying he won't sign until Feb.

It was a signing day event picture for Blake Schmidt.

When I watched some of the NDSU games during the playoffs, one thing that surprised me was how many players they have from the state of Florida, which of course has always been a talent-rich state. I suppose having an indoor football stadium helps recruit that would not apply to us.

However, I think it is obvious that you cannot compete for NCs with just players from the state of Montana.
As an example, I was surprised to learn that not a single starter for Alabama on O or D is from the state of Alabama. All 22
starters are from out of state. Never was the case when Bear Bryant was there. And Nebraska used to win NCs with almost
all of the players from in-state. Certainly, that is no longer the case.

MSU needs to always recruit to meet its needs. If the quality of players to compete has to come from outside of MT, so be it

You need a nice mix. MT kids will always be the backbone of the program, and you need leaders and depth from MT kids. When a skill kid from MT comes along that is a bonus, but most likely this talent is going to come from out of state.

I don't think we'd ever be successful without a core group of MT guys on the roster.

Agree 100%.

The best Montana players (except for the occasional Matt Miller/Will Dissly) are a nice fit for FCS football. MT kids aren't necessarily the most athletic, but they get by on toughness and "pretty good" athleticism, as well as an extra sense of pride in playing for their state. We don't have the population to produce a ton of those kids, so you have to supplement from out of state...always have.

But beyond that, football has morphed into a game where elite athleticism matters more than it used to; it used to be more about strength and toughness than anything. Strength and toughness matter (a whole lot), but you have to have that athleticism at the skill positions that we're just not producing in Montana. If we were, you'd see at least a handful of Montana kids playing Division-I basketball.

The other thing about Montana kids is that, for the most part, the best athletes are playing 3-4 sports throughout the year and not specializing in just football. Because of that, there's a ton of potential for their bodies to develop as they get into a training/nutrition program.

The results of the Badlands Bowl might explain why they don't have a huge number of ND kids.
