Now, I see Choate said he would be a tight end.

TE was a need. Added Snell as more of a H-back/traditional TE and Joe as more of a in-line blocking TE. Coaching staff wants to add a JC or drop-down transfer to compete at LG with the young guys (Sessions, Wood, McKnight) as Lewis Kidd will likely be MSU's left tackle of the future.

A couple questions:

How many do they plan to sign on Feb. 7?

Will all the transfers be here for spring?

Why did Travis Jonsen only play sparingly at Riverside?

He got beat out by Vic Viramontes who signed with the University of Minnesota today. Vic was the #1 dual-threat JUCO QB in the nation and originally signed with Michigan out of high school three years ago. Travis gets a chance to earn a starting spot with MSU now.

Choate seems to really like high character, high GPA guys. Can't say as I blame him.

Not surprised. Servite is an outstanding high school.

Really liked this comment:
Jory Choate, LB, Bozeman: The coach’s son, Choate is the only preferred walk-on on the list. He led Class AA in both sacks and tackles for loss but did not receive a scholarship, to which Jeff Choate said, “If we weren’t talking about my son, he might be signing something. I think he’s one of the top 15 players in the state and there’s no question about it.”

I believe his son is also eligible for a 50% tuition reduction since his father is an employee at MSU. Depending on how you look at that waiver, his son has a partial scholly.

Interesting that only two Idaho High School players were signed by the Idaho schools. I'm sure that will change though.

He’d be worth it. I agree with Choate that Jory is a top 15 player and I’d add ‘at least.’ Another underrated player is Winterburn. I think Winterburn’s and Askelson’s style of play transfers to play he college game very, very well.

"MSU coaches going through signees’ highlights. As a clip of Casey Bauman throwing a 40-yard bomb played, Choate said “This is a throw we need someone to make.”

This is why some of us are speculating about the future of QB with Murray! Of course we are reading between the lines, but IF Chris was the automatic QB for next year Coach had every opportunity to say so. By saying " we need SOMEONE to make" opens the door to everyone in the stable. Chris has had 2 years to make that throw and he has not locked that down and has left the door open to the other QB's! IMO

Will all 4 transfers be here for Spring Semester and Spring Ball?

They’re referred to as mid-season transfers, so I think that means they will

Everyone is speculating about Murray because I think everyone realizes we need a QB who can throw it better than he has so far. It's all speculation.

Murray is used to being the man, he has since he was 14 years old and hasn't not been a starting QB since (pretty crazy really). I hope the coaches make a decision coming out of spring ball, because they owe it to Murray if he isn't the guy to let him know that before the summer arrives, so he has an opportunity to go somewhere else if he so desires (not saying he would).

I thought the same thing when looking at his game log for passing stats, then I clicked on the rushing stats and he had some impressive games. They must have had some specific packages for him.

He was a backup because he had a very good QB in front of him.

Him and Murray are very similar. Dynamic runners who struggle in the passing game. It will be a good competition, and the "loser" will still be able to impact the offense with special packages. Heck, we could have a Murray/Jonsen backfield on many a occasion. Gives a DC a lot to worry about.

Exactly, which is why I think it is even more impressive that the coaches schemed to get Jonsen on the field in certain packages even with a qb like Viramontes (who had a MSU offer early back in 2016) ahead of him. Viramontes committed to Michigan out of high school, flipped to Cal and then transferred to Riverside CC after Cal coach was replaced by Wilcox. He had 7 offers from FBS teams after his year at Riverside that included Kansas, UNLV, Ole Miss and New Mexico before deciding on Minnesota.
