2017 FCS Playoff At Large Eligibility (Version 1)

2017 FCS Playoff At Large Eligibility (Version 1)

I compiled a list of FCS teams still capable of reaching 7 Division 1 wins this season. Although 7 wins is no longer the official plateau for at-large selection, it is highly unlikely a 6-5 team will be selected. The list is for reference only, and is not meant to predict the probability of the teams selected. It will be updated weekly, as teams are eliminated, or teams secure their conference auto-bid.

Teams are organized by conference, although Ivy League teams are not included since their conference does not participate in the FCS playoffs. MEAC teams are listed since their second place team could still theoretically receive a playoff berth; only Alcorn State from the SWAC is listed, since all other teams are eliminated, or have schedule conflicts.

Teams preceded by an asterisk (*) have already reached 7 Division 1 wins; those listed in bold need to win all remaining games to reach 7 Division I wins.

Looks like Eastern's wins over mediocre teams isn't getting them much love.

grizband thanks for posting this.

MSU has a tough road to get to the playoffs. I am not suprised I thought we would be 6-5 or 5-6 this year. Certainly a bonus if we could pull it off.

IF we win out we’ll be 7-4 and 6-2 in conference. Our remaining schedule ISU (2-3), Kennesaw (6-1), @NAU (4-0) & um (3-1)….~ 15-5 record. We have 3 home & 1 away game remaining.

IF the griz go 2-2 they will be 7-4 and 5-3 in conference (fyi…5-3 in conference could be good for 7th place). Their remaining games are @Weber (3-1), NAU (4-0), UNC (1-3), CATS (3-2)……11-6 record. The griz have 2 home & 2 away games left.

Having a tough Out of Conference schedule has consequences. If you win some of em you get a ‘feather in your cap’ so to speak when it comes to selection time, but if you don’t you simply have to go 6-2 or better in conference to have a chance. If you have ‘cupcakes’ on your schedule, ending up with a 7-4 schedule might not cut it, especially when you’re in the bottom half of your conference.

If we end up at 7-4 we’ll have a better chance than if the griz end up 7-4, not just because of our strength of schedule but our conference standing (6-2, which could tie us for ~3rd) as well.

We can win out if we stop the mistakes for almost the entire game/s. Unfortunately, I don’t see that happening for 4 straight games. I hope I’m wrong.

It starts by beating ISU, who has a good offense that matches up well against our depleted defense. Our offense will need to be hitting on all cylinders and control the clock. Howz boutz we end up on the plus side of the turnover battle for once. GO CATS!

True, and don't forget about the added point that in that scenario we will have just beaten them head to head.

That being said, I am with you and hopeful yet realistic about us winning out. I think we beat ISU and perhaps KSU (NO idea how good they are but their resume looks impressive) then lose to NAU.

Great time to be a BOBCAT!

College Sports Madness also has the Big South Conference getting 2 playoff bids...if Kennesaw State doesn't win the conference, I can't imagine them get an at large...

Yeah I just posted in another thread how awful their competition has been. They have beat 2 1 loss teams, 2 0 fers and a D II school by 4. They aren't good.
