8/19 Scrimmage thread
Scrimmage at 11:00 and it's a big one for starting spots at both OGs and both CBs. Who do you think will get them? I'm going with Alley and Washington at CBs and McFetridge and Gillis at OGs.

I hear Choate is pretty upbeat going into tomorrow's scrimmage.

They better not come to the party hesitant or cautious...that's when you get hurt, and that's when you drop on the depth chart!

Re: 8/19 Scrimmage thread
That definitely shouldn't happen today, especially on the defensive side. McCabe and Bignell should take care of that. They both looked pretty downtrodden after last week's scrimmage. It was a big talking point by Choate. I would think the offense and special teams picked up on that.catsrback76 wrote:They better not come to the party hesitant or cautious...that's when you get hurt, and that's when you drop on the depth chart!
It is a smokey beast in Helena. I hope Bozeman is clearer.

From what I can tell from Twitter is the D is owning it, the offense isn't looking very good today.91catAlum wrote:Who's in Bozeman watching? Any updates?

*Except Tyrell Burgess is tearing it up at RB 5 for 37

Sounds like the D was doing well now the O is taking over....hard to tell from tweets. So many things happening that without being there or actually watching game film you'll never really get a good feel for whats going on. Its like when one guy gets a sack that means the other lineman and backers are doing their job too. Or the back runs for 15 because the O line blocked well in the scheme. But the only tweet was the RB gaining yards. But at least we are getting some info on the tweets which is cool.

I thought tyrel really good. Like the way he runs.
Paige could be been lit up on a pass break up but db's didn't unload.
Offense ran after the scrimmage. Couple coaches ran with them. Like DM.

Re: 8/19 Scrimmage thread
By nature it's difficult for a scrimmage to look great, but MSU did about all you can do to get there today. The one play that epitomized that was when Chris Murray hit Kevin Kassis, who had made a very good cut, with a great pass for a first down. However, as Kassis was going to the ground Brayden Konkol jarred the ball loose and Khari Garcia scooped it up. All four efforts were good/great and they happened in one play.

Re: 8/19 Scrimmage thread
I thought coaches let younger kids take more reps than older ones. Not too many 1's vs 1's. Murray and Rovig both looked very composed and comfortable. McChesney reminded me of Bruggeman during scrimmages last year. Murray threw with authority, Kassis was favorite target...who catches everything! McCutcheon will be in the mix. Stephens has reached the level needed to play. Anderson is....well amazing....I hope he can look that good against WAZZU and SDSU. Seems to glide away from tacklers, and build up speed that tacklers cannot handle. Reminds me of Jesse Chatman from EWU several years ago...drafted by San Diego. He is death in the open field!
Rovig reminds me of Case Cookus or Arias from ISU. A little taller, but very confident and accurate. McGhee has done wonders with these QB's.
Tyrel Burgess, although about 160lbs can cut at full speed. Saw him aporoach two tacklers And make a cut so sharp that he split them and made 5 more yards. Much quicker than Pegues. Pegues had some decent runs later...but not as twitchy as Burgess. Didn't use TE's or RB's much in passing game today...but can hardly wait to see Anderson on the screen or swing out of the backfield!
Daly was outstanding today...punts all spirals about 50+...and 49 yd FG.
Chase Benson looked good on DL...Collins didn't play that I saw....Jobman, Finch split time at Buck with Chapman and Kanow on edge in nickel. Marks and Fa'anono split DE. 2nd and 3rd LB's got a lot of work...Cozzie had some good plays late....Opland played a lot was steady.
Vander carried a few times, but didn't have chances to do much as well as James. Jones only had a carry or two. Herbert was his steady self...Kassis and Burgess looked great on punt and KO returns.
Saw Hashley on sidelines with just a jersey on...but didn't notice Keaton Anderson...but he might have been there...still haven't heard about him...I think Hashley is nursing a knee from Border War....
