Re: Boom
I think this is a really solid pickup for us. We are going to have a line backing corp that will be loaded in a few years. I loved this kid's knack for finding the ball. GO CATS GO!!

Thanks. That's what I was thinking.RobertCats wrote:Yeah, I believe Nolan's father is originally from Cut Bank. Roger Askelson (who still lives in CB) would be Nolan's uncle. Ben also attends Montana State.kwcat wrote:Does Nolan come from the Askelson family originally from Cut Bank?
Solid people for sure if so.
Roger's younger sister Cindy was a chem e major at MSU as well.

I didn't think UM recruited in the state of Montana anymore......opps!! I recall Stitt saying that kids from this state shouldn't have to be recruited but should walk on so that they can use scholarships on out of state kids. Good luck with that one.

GC18 is just giving him a hard time. It's a rivalry. Stitt has said something similar.

Re: Nolan Askelson commits
I was joking with the guy. It isn't his fault that was the stance his head coach took. I have talked to several of my friends that are Griz fans and they all talk about how they need to get back to the old days of recruiting Montana kids if they are going to be good again. Well, you know what I mean by good again.

Re: Nolan Askelson commits
They got 11 commitments from Montana kids this February and about 7 of them are projected to be pretty good FCS-level football players. I would tell your Griz friends that if they want to get back to the old days, get rid of Stitt and get back to running the football with a big, bad-ass offensive line, stingy defense, and lockdown special teams play (I basically just described the Hauck years).GoCats18 wrote:I was joking with the guy. Re: Nolan Askelson commits
I agree it takes more than just Montana kids. I just laugh because I hate how they claim to be Montana's team and how they always act like they have and play so many kids from around this state. They showed that stat during the Cat-griz game last year and they had about half as many Montana kids as we did. Plus, it is a rivalry and sometimes you just have to make fun of them.

He commends both staffs in a reply to this tweet. A Griz fan got mad so Jim had to calm down the pitchforks.GoCats18 wrote:https://twitter.com/jimoday57/status/857334262701469696 Guess this says a lot about how we are recruiting the state!!

Re: Nolan Askelson commits
I saw that, but it does say a lot that someone like him sees what we are doing. I know UM goes after Montana kids, I am not saying they don't. I just don't think they go after them like they did in the 90's and 2000's. The key is getting the kids you want that you think will fit what you are doing.....and who knows what Stitt is doing?
