-Established and 1893, it had its first students by February 16, 1893 to be the first operational college in Montana.

Not the first college in Montana but the oldest college still in existence. The Montana Collegiate Institute (later the College of Montana) in Deer Lodge was the first college in 1878.

UM had a higher (dual meaning) enrollment for years, so they thought of themselves as big brother. MSU is the older, bigger, much better looking and smarter brother. Good find Dizzle! Thanks for sharing. Common buildings to both pictures are Montana Hall, Traphagen, Romney Gym, Roberts, Linfield, Herrick, Hamilton, and Lewis?? (old nursing building?).
