Kyle Rygg commits!

Post by VimSince03 » Tue Jan 24, 2017 4:03 pm

https://twitter.com/CoachChoate_MSU/status/824014347781357568 This is DE Kyle Rygg. He is a 6'5", 245 lb. 2-star DE from Oregon and he has offers from several Big Sky schools, Ivy league's Columbia and Cornell, and a PWO spot from Oregon along with a few other FBS schools. Defensive line is starting to beef up!

Obvious that he likes to play. Looks too slow and upright for defensive end, but I predict he bulks up and plays O or D line.

Pad level can be taught. Size cannot.

Nor can speed. 4.95 second 40 according to hudl. Pulling guard speed, but he looks like an o-tackle too. Desire isn't usually taught either, and this kid appears to have it. I like him no matter where he plays.

I agree. He is a strong-side DE, not a rush end. And he has the body to turn into a 3-tech.

Regardless, I probably should stop talking him up until confirmation happens. He was the only Oregon recruit who visited last weekend. We were also his first offer according to his twitter.

For sure. It's always a curiosity to see how much weight they add. This guy is agile and tough so should wear it well.

Also, if there are two guys that I trust their evaluations of defenseive lineman it's Coach Choate and Gregorak.

Pretty cool that we beat out Air Force, Cornell, and Idaho on Kyle.

Very cool. Matching up with Cornell, for an academic choice speaks volumes.

Yeah for sure a strong side DE. Very long arms, big mits, and strong holding the edge. One reason he may not look as fast is you can tell he has been taught to protect the edge and turn the play inside. He does that multiple times in his video. Once inside he goes after them! He is very strong at the point of attack and shucking off blockers with his long armss/hands.

So out of everyone on the official last weekend the only one else not previously or now committed is Campbell, correct? Great job finishing the deal.

I disagree somewhat re: speed. Both game and straight away speed can be taught/improved by good coaching and training.

When I arrived in Bozeman (also from Oregon) I was a scrawny DE at 220 lbs. running a slow 4.87 (at best) second 40 who thought I knew everything about how to play the game. Of course I did, in high school all I had to do was find the ball and make a play. By my senior year at MSU, I was a 265+/- lbs., running a 4.69-.67 second 40. Yes, Hysell actually taught us how to run! More important, through high quality coaching (thanks Butch) I learned about first step, pad level, play recognition, pre-snap indicators, pass rush set up, technique, etc. etc. etc. Don't get me wrong, speed is huge! But we aren't going to recruit many 4.5-4.6 DEs to MSU. But I know that even when you play the rush DE position, as I did, straight away speed was far less important than first step, pad level, play recognition, and technique. I am more concerned about how quickly a player can make decisions and then how quickly he move 5 yards in any direction to make a play.

FYI: I bet I practiced first step 10k-20k times in 5 years as a Bobcat. I still dream about first step 20+ years later.

Ok, there is my annual post. Peace guys! I love the Bobcat Nation!
