If this schedule holds true, I love our chances at returning to the playoffs next year. I see @ Eastern as the only sure conference loss. I see the cats finishing the conference schedule with 1 or 2 conference losses (Eastern and either at ND, at NAU, or UM). That should be good for a first round playoff game.

The first two non-conference games are pretty tough. We wont beat Wazzu and SDSU was a playoff team. A win against SDSU would be great for our resume. Ill chalk up a win against Kennesaw State (from Georgia) in Bozeman in November.

Go Cats!

You are more optimistic than most I'm guessing. This looks like a pretty legit schedule. If you start 0-2 and then have just 2 conference losses that you alluded to, you're at 7-4 for the year and already on the playoff bubble. Looks like both the cats and Griz have tough schedules in 2017, each playing an FBS as well. Gonna be interesting where it all ends up. I can actually see another 6-5 type year for the Griz unless the new QB comes in blazing and surprises.

Weber and Cal Poly both got into the playoffs this year with 7-4 records. Weber with two conference losses and CP with 3...

I don't think expecting a first round playoff game from a 7-4 team (or 6-3 if we beat SDSU) is too far fetched. Especially considering our stadium/attendance and the committee's tendencies to favor teams that can bring revenue.

Weber and CP were both 7-4 actually and two of the last teams in (and unfortunately performed like it). The 7-5 you quoted was after their playoff losses. 7-4 is usually the bubble and not a guarantee by any means. Will come down to strength of schedule. If you go 7-4, you probably have a good shot with the FBS on the schedule. I just think 7-4cmay even be optimistic just like I think it is for the Griz.

We could easily start 0-3.

I'm not too optimistic yet.

I think that looks like a pretty challenging schedule. We play the two co-BSC champs on the road, so we're going to be big underdogs in those two games, and our other two conference road games are against teams that were playoff contender this past season. I think going 6-2 in conference and 8-3 overall is theoretically possible, but not very probable. I'd guess that 4-4 in conference and 5-6 or 6-5 overall is far more realistic. I picked us to go 6-2/8-3 this year, so I sorta learned my lesson about being overly optimistic. I think we'll see definite improvement, but I'd be surprised if we're a playoff team in 2017.

Right now and before signing day, spring ball, summer roster changes, and BSC head coaching changes. I'm 100% sure that I have no idea how good we or anyone else in the BSC will be next year.

This looks like it could be a very tough schedule.

I should add that I generally like the non-conference schedule. I love that we aren't playing any D-II teams. I personally am not in favor of scheduling FBS teams, because I don't like playing games that are almost automatic losses, since that obviously hurts our chances of making the playoffs. But I also understand that these games represent a nice payday for the program.

I get blamed for being too negative, but that was my thoughts exactly.
Anybody know what UND and SDSU have coming back next season? I'm guessing both will be pretty good.

I'm a little surprised that there are no California schools on the schedule.

Tough schedule indeed. I really like it. Hope they continue to schedule tough, I think it will help this program in the long run.

First time since 1993 Montana State has not played a school from California. Sac State joined the Big Sky in 1996 and MSU played them every year from 1996 until the 2016 season except in 2013. MSU played Cal Poly in 1992, 1994 and 1995 leading up to Sac joining the league.

Best thing about this schedule ......NO DII
Worst thing about this schedule....FBS Wazzu who has ~15 returning starters including their QB....could be ugly since it's right out of the blocks (although they've lost to BSC teams before)
Overall a pretty tough conference schedule (we play the top 3 returning teams) and a tough OoC schedule which includes a top Pac12 team, an 8-3 FCS playoff team + another 8-3 FCS team (combined 2016 record of our Out of Conference opponents is 24-10 edit)
2017 My WAG would be 6-5 (Murray's sophomore year)
2018 say 8-3 and quarter final loss (Murray's Junior year)
2019 10-1 National Championship! (Murray's Senior year)

Think BIG....GO CATS!

I could live with those results...

It is good we have South Dakota St. on there as beating Montana this year won't really give us a leg up late in the year (could bring us down on strength of schedule). :)

Hopefully our home sells and we can be out of cali... Being in Idaho will get us a few games to go to...
