Re: Fou Polataivao transfer DT
Here is a dumb question.
Could this young man, and any of the other junior college players, sign while on their visit or is there another signing period coming up?

I think it's too late to "sign". At this point I think they just enroll

There's not a wealth of information out there on this guy. I don't see any all-conference awards. I see he played both ways his senior year in HS. No stats or anything from college. Is this a player we should be excited about getting or is he depth? I don't get the same quick fix feeling about him as I get about Alex Neale.

Re: Fou Polataivao transfer DT
As I always say, watch the tape: From the tape, you can tell he has a high motor and is strong. Gets double teamed a lot and fights through it with good technique. A guy who can move like he can at 290+ lbs. can only be a good thing for our defensive line. And we do not need a bunch of Zach Minter's on the interior of our defensive line to play good, sound team defense. What we NEEDED was starter quality depth where there wasn't a big drop off in talent. Fou provides that with some somoan flare.iaafan wrote:There's not a wealth of information out there on this guy. If you don't get anything out of watching tape, just know that Coach Choate developed NFL draft picks on the defensive line for years at the FBS level. Trust the coaches have their guy.

you're right, there's not a lot out there, but his tape is good like Vim said. Watch how he gets off his blocks and spilts double teams with ease, we can use this kid.iaafan wrote:There's not a wealth of information out there on this guy. I don't see any all-conference awards. With a name like Fou Polataivao he has to be a good DT.

Here are his stats from 9 games played last season. Guessing Ty and Choate will want much more production from him. It's at least some depth which is never a bad thing.

Assists 11..............583rd....3......1110th
Tackles 18..............920th....5......1391st

He sure was. I was just posting Hayashi's stats for the heck of it. I did not screw up in any way shape or form.

I also take JUCO stats (good or bad) with a grain of salt. Its all about how he can fit and play his role on the MSU defensive line.Hawks86 wrote:VimSince03 wrote:Addict was talking about Fou Polataivao.Hawks86 wrote:That looks like stats from 2014

Re: Fou Polataivao transfer DT
The DT position is a tough one to fill. Very high demand. Like OL it's not a glamorous job. It used to be. I think players getting so big has aided in that. Back in the day Alan Page, Bob Lilly, Merlin Olson were DTs that were household names, but tiny by today's standards. Page only weighed 220 when he retired. Today the prototype is 300 lbs and your job is to occupy the interior OL. Sound fun? Everyone else is running around blasting RBs and WRs, while DTs are rolling around with some other hairy 300 pounder.

Re: Fou Polataivao transfer DT
Agree 100%. I posted his stats because a poster said earlier that he/she couldn't find any. It was a much needed pick up for depth IMO, regardless is any current or past stats.VimSince03 wrote:I also take JUCO stats (good or bad) with a grain of salt.
