Did MSU get a commit from a player from Garces?

MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Sounds like he might be helping with recruiting. Speaking of players recruiting teammates, I wonder how Rovig is doing with that DB from his team?

I love this year's O-Line recruits! They all bring the nasty! And I realize these are highlights of a whole season, but most of the poor kids these recruits were blocking either end up on the ground or 20 yards downfield! Can't wait to see them in the blue and gold! =D^ \:D/ These coaches are killing it!

Interestingly, we have 2 verbal commits who played QB as a Sr. in High School, but not as Juniors. Gilman and O'Reilly. Both will probably play other positions in College. And we have another QB - Troy Anderson - who will also probably play another position in College.

Usually a teams most athletic/best player plays QB in HS.

How does O'Reilly stack up against other Montana QBs, statistically?

I'm curious, do we have many examples of guys who were high school quarterbacks who came in and excelled at a different position? I think my brain is frozen, as I can't think of anyone beyond this years guys Barth and Folsom.

Griebel is the only other recent one I can think of.

Mac Bignell, Mitch Greibel, I think Deonte Flowers . . . I'm sure there are others as well but drawing a blank

Mitch was the guy I was trying to think of. I had no idea Bignell and Flowers were QB's.

Stats on MaxPreps are not legit on all Montana kids but Callahan's are final. Here are the Top 4 I have found:

Passing

1) Dakota Bridwell (Columbia Falls) - 3906 yards passing, 49 tds, 62% completion rate, 323 yards passing per game; 154 yards rushing for 7 tds
2) Braden Larsen (Whitehall) - 3423 yards passing, 37 tds, 61% completion rate, 285 yards passing per game; 816 yards rushing for 11 tds
3) Callahan O'Reilly (Bozeman) - 3178 yards passing, 26 tds, 64% completion rate, 318 yards passing per game; 379 yards rushing for 13 tds
4) Nate Dick (Billings Senior) - 2639 yards passing, 34 tds, 69% completion rate, 220 yards passing per game; 1222 yards rushing for 19 tds

Bridwell and Larsen were part of spread offenses that throw the football a ton but their stats are still impressive and they both moved into the Top 5 in many career MHSA passing records. Nate Dick is likely your Gatorade Player of the Year in football because he was the catalyst for everything Senior did the past few seasons. But Callahan may be the only one who has the prototype size to play QB at the FCS level. Braden Larsen stands 6'1", 185 lbs. and has a ton of arm talent but would make a big jump from Class B (he is still one of my favorite QBs in this class).

Rob Poliot back in the 80s played quarterback in High School but was recruited as a DB.
