Had a very respectable year. He had the game winning INT in his hands at Sac and dropped it. But at least he read the play and was in position. Just needs to finish it.JDoub wrote:He did have a pick-6 but it was called back, I think for encroachment, Just a few plays after he dropped an INT. I swear he had like 5 "shoulda been" INT's, several of which would have been pick 6's but he dropped them. Seemed to always be in the right position to make a big play.083190 wrote:If somehow a pass rush develops/emerges, the CB's will automatically be a lot better! Hopefully they will continue to grow and develop over the winter and through spring practice to fall camp.

18 verbals this early is a ton. Some years that's the entire signing class.

Re: 2017 MSU Recruiting (18 Verbals)
Updated our recruiting table complete with links to stories on all the verbal commits I have spoken with. Also have caught up with Brody McKnight, Connor Wood, Stephen Omorogbe, Lance McCutcheon while going back and forth from Bozeman to Cheney for our Eastern Washington playoff coverage. Those stories will be posted as soon written. Omorogbe is already written but he wants to wait until later in the week when he can officially announce his news before I print it.

Re: 2017 MSU Recruiting (18 Verbals)
This is another class full of versatility. Here are the potential RBs and WRs (kids who may play that position sometime during their college career):BleedingBLue wrote:How many WR or RBs have verballed?
Edward Vander - RB
Lance McCutcheon - WR
Troy Andersen - WR (Bobcats like him at safety and that is likely where he will start.)
Tadan Gilman - RB (A really, really good OLB but could be a dynamic RB as well.)
The only two that are clear cut RB or WR prospects are Edward and Lance.

Vim,
Can I suggest an edit to the front page? It's laid out real nice, but it would also be nice to maybe have a simple list at the top the has the kids names where their from, recruited positions, athletic eligibility, and Ht & Wgt. Sometimes its easy to lose kids in the bio's.

Is it just how it worked out this year that we are not signing a ton of skill positions or is this something Choate will do often, more defensive focus and o line, less on the offensive skill positions?VimSince03 wrote:This is another class full of versatility. or you could do a quick list of projected position verbals, example:luckyirishguy25 wrote:Vim,

Re: 2017 MSU Recruiting (18 Verbals)
I updated it. Give me a review. As far as listing where players are going to play, we won't really know until signing day. A good portion will be playing in the positions listed. Guys like Tadan Gilman and Troy Andersen are the most versatile ones. Could start on offense or defense.mslacatfan wrote:or you could do a quick list of projected position verbals, example:luckyirishguy25 wrote:Vim,

Re: 2017 MSU Recruiting (18 Verbals)
Recruiting isn't close to being over and we are still after several receivers and a few running backs. I know guys are looking at the "18 verbals" total and wondering how we have enough scholarships left to recruit more kids. But like Coach Pitre said, there is no set number. Choate is going to recruits kids and let things work themselves out during spring ball. The best players will play.BleedingBLue wrote:Is it just how it worked out this year that we are not signing a ton of skill positions or is this something Choate will do often, more defensive focus and o line, less on the offensive skill positions?VimSince03 wrote:This is another class full of versatility. Re: 2017 MSU Recruiting (18 Verbals)
I see Hatten just got a 2-star rating from Rivals. All 12 out-of-state recruits now have a star rating of some sort. 6 3-star and 6 2-star. Regardless if star ratings mean anything or not, it's unprecedented at MSU to have the first 12 players be star rated. MSU has already surpassed its record, which was 11 (out of 36 players in 2016), with 12. The in-state recruits are equally impressive in a ratings sense. Of the 6 in-state recruits 5 are rated in Vim's top 7.
I think the first star-rated player MSU ever signed out of high school was Jason Goodman out of CMR back in 2001(?). The first one since 2007 was Everett Gilbert (2*) in 2009. The next year David Dash (3*) signed, but barely played. A year after that Odin Coe and Matt Devereux signed as 2-stars and Jarmarcus Darden, who never played, was a 3-star. 2012-5, 2013-5, 2014-8, 2015-8, 2016-11, 2017-12 so far. My guess is part of the reason they've gone up is their are more rating agencies and they've become more liberal. Of the 42 star rated players from 2007-16, I rate 18 as good, 9 as average, 7 as busts, 2 injured and 6 incomplete.

The star rating thing is always really interesting, and sometimes just hilarious. Was Denarius McGhee even a star rated player? (probably the best player we have got in the last 15 years)iaafan wrote:I see Hatten just got a 2-star rating from Rivals. Then there are all the guys like Newell, Kirk, Tanner Bleskin, Caleb Schreibeis and Mac Bignell, that become all-time greats and were barely even recruited out of High School...
Question- Who is the most successful bobcat ever, that came into the program out of highschool with a star rating (no transfers)? I'm trying to think... was minter even a 2 star? (if not that is hilarious, should have probably been a 4 star)... Everett Gilbert had a good career. Did Shawn John have a star rating? Maybe Deonte Flowers? I think Prukop might have been a 2 star (again, if not, then that is a joke)?
You could almost make the argument that the Cats have found way more success with players that did NOT have any star ratings... kinda interesting

We recruit at a level where players with and without stars mean next to nothing. I know they're fun to talk about, but just ignore them. Watch the film, evaluate that.

Probably in total, but then there have only been 42 star rated players in 10 years. As a percentage it's about the same. 18 of 42 players have graded out as good, but I would guess 3 of the 6 incomplete grades will be good, so that's 21 of 42 for 50%. There have been 188 other recruits over those 10 years and I count 77 as good players and maybe five more that haven't come to the forefront yet. That's 44%.
The best star-rated player IMO was Prukop. He was 3-star. Beau Sandland (4-star) is probably better, but he only played one year.
