Re: Best All Time Montana Athletes
Montana Olympians would be an interesting thread, I can think of a few skiers who won medals
Tommy Moe from Missoula, first American male to win 2 Olympic medals in one winter Olympics (Gold & Silver)
Eric Bergoust from Missoula, Gold Medal Olympics Aerials, World Gold
Byron Wilson from Butte, Olympic Bronze, still skiing professionally only 27 years old
And speaking of Shane Collins, I'm not sure many Montanas (or anybody) have won the NCAA's in T&F and played in the NFL

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts. - Dan Gable

I would put Corey Widmer ahead of both Colt Anderson and Kroy Beirmann. Casey Fitzsimmons is impressive cause he came from the Frontier to the Lions and did well.

What about Patrick Casey, from Laurel, ran a sub 4:00 mile on Montana Soil. 3:59, adjusted to a 3:54.

And still training with the Nike Oregon Elite club. Been battling some injuries but has high hopes for this year.Reddevil66-MSU wrote:What about Patrick Casey, from Laurel, ran a sub 4:00 mile on Montana Soil. 3:59, adjusted to a 3:54.

I don't see how you could put Widmer ahead of Biermann.FTG247365 wrote:Camo_Cat wrote:Baseball: Jeff Ballard

I would encourage those of you that offered good examples to enter them on the voting ballot
and vote .
Dan Mortenson was definitely one I forgot and should be on the list.
I believe Marvin Camel may have been the first world cruiser weight world champion?

It's hard to argue with Dave Mcnally. Although Jeff Ballard was a 20 game winner for the Orioles.
I cannot believe they put Todd Foster on the list and didn't mention Marvin Camel. Camel was way better.
The best football player to ever play in this state was Mark Fellows. If he wouldn't have hurt himself badly early in his pro career he would have dominated in the NFL.

I'll be honest, I sometimes question what the MT mint puts out there, especially when it comes to Bobcat/griz stuff. If you read their "experts" opinions, its heavily loaded with griz fans and almost apologetic Cat fans. But fun discussion on this none-the-less.

I remember going to a Todd Foster fight at the Brick with my wife and it was on ESPN...had to be 92 or 93?lutecat wrote:seataccat wrote:It's hard to argue with Dave Mcnally. Although Jeff Ballard was a 20 game winner for the Orioles.

STATs, Games Started, Tackles, INT.....Biermann has more sacks, but comparing 2 different positions. I would still take Widmer.bobcat99 wrote:I don't see how you could put Widmer ahead of Biermann.FTG247365 wrote:Camo_Cat wrote:Baseball: Jeff Ballard

MSU basketball player in late 60's Jack Gillespie. Still holds all time record for rebounds at MSU and was a first round pick in the draft in the old ABA. Only first round pick to come out of Montana.

I will use the excuse that I am not a native born Montanan so I will use that as a reason... But I had no idea that Foster was a Montana kid.lutecat wrote:I would argue for Tanner Hall too. Dude is one of the best at his sport for the last decade and a half. No one that's not a skier probably really knows who he is though, but same with the Zadick brothers with wrestling. And as a Great Falls guy, I have to go with Todd "The Kid" Foster. When he got married, the whole town of GF seriously wanted to go to that wedding. I got to go to the airport when he came back from the Olympics.
